Dynamic Range: 5DII vs 5DIII

11.7 to 11.9 Dr is very small. My Mark III blows away my Mark II in every other way that I doubt I'd see such a fractional difference in DR

Look, those DXOMark measurements are sometimes quite off from reality. For example, DXOMark lists the Sony Nex-5n sensor as better in lowligth and dynamic range than the canon 7d. This is not true. I've done quick tests and used both cameras regularly.

The 5n has a bit more chroma noise at higher ISOs. It also does some horizontal distortion in ISO 6400 with highlights. At ISO 100 it is slightly better as it has lesser sensor noise in the extreme shadows. No visible lines.

Still, the sensors are VERY comparable. DXOMark lists the 5n as better. I think that is misinformation. Same thing with the 5d mark II DR vs III.

I heard that the older 5DII has a slight edge in dynamic range compared to the newer 5DIII.

Can anyone confirm this?

Those measurements are for stills: utterly useless if you're shooting video, there's no correlation at all, camera A can have 2 stops more DR in stills mode than camera B, and at the same time 2 stops less in video mode. In any case, 11.7 and 11.9 is basically the same: my measurements concluded that 5D3 had the same DR as the 5D2 in video mode, but my margin of error is clearly above 0.2 stops, I'm unlikely to detect differences under half a stop.
