Dynamic Mic in Hurricane Harvey

The weather channel has Jim Cantore is reporting live now from Corpus Christi in the hurricane. I don't have any experience with hurricane winds. I'm impressed with the performance of the mic with a simple foamie on the mic.

Edit - it must have failed. It looks like he is using a lav now.

From what I can see its an ElectroVoice RE50B..... An Omni pattern Dynamic mic, (the 'B' is the Black version).
Omni mics are always good in the wind compared to a cardoid mic.
The RE50 has been around for many years and a VERY robust mic, drop them, kick them they will survive, they are actually a mic within a mic with a rubber lining between the inner and outer mic.
An Ideal interview mic....BUT they are heavy compared to some other mics, A TV network I used to work for in the standard news audio kit was a Shure SM63, again an Omni mic but about 1/4 of the weight of the RE50.... And also impressive in strong wind conditions.

Great mic's and I have two of them in my kit, they are virtually bombproof and mic of choice for sports and news here in the UK.

There are other mic's in use such as the Beyer M48 but the latest RE50N/D-B has improved gain from the original.
