DVXuser Visual Effects Fest/Challenge

i've got a couple more things to do on mine and I plan to finish it over the lunch hour and hopefully get it uploaded in time.

There's still today guys, if you can get a couple hours in. And you don't have to upload a fully finished version either. This is intended to be a way to share techniques and learn so if you got started but ran out of time feel free to upload even a static frame if you like to show us your progress!

Dang, just now found this thread today. I'll keep an eye on it and hopefully take part in the next one. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

Yeah, I did initially say 2-5 second. Then went and built one that is around 8 second. I'll shave off a little and try to keep it to under 15 megs.

Uploaded and ready.

I found a piece I had built and had forgotten about. I was lucky enough to have found it when I did so I could incorporate it.

Final time: 00:08;02

File Size 15.8 megs

Tried to get is down to 15, but it began to get lousy looking. I hope the extra 800K it alright and I'm still eligable. If not, I still had a really good time.

Total work (fun) time: 20-25 hours.

That's totally cool Matt, and we'll allow anyone else a little fudge factor as well. For this fest the 15 meg limit is a target but not a hard and fast requirement.

please read

When I set the time for this I did not include a time zone. That was my fault, sorry. So, the real time limit for them to be turned in is 6:00 pacific time.

Just wanted to clarify.

Actually I was kind of hoping you would miss it.:evil::thumbsup:

I have a feeling I am going to get my guts stomped bad enough without bringing Kyle in to give me a stomping too. :)

Hmm, maybe I will be able to get something going then...Since I live on the eastern seaboard.

I must admit - this is not that easy...

I had a nice image going but I got hung up on my actual animation, I was hoping to include some flurries ah well next challenge.

No problem dr. cool. We will look forward to having you join us next time. This is a startup endeavor so we're going to have a lot of fun and a few growing pains.

We can promise you that things will be cooking as we continue to build this!

I would like everyone to participate. So you may not know the ins and outs of a certian piece of software.

The main goal of this is to learn. You walk away knowing something you didn't, then our job here is complete.

Alright, well - mine is up right now.

The particles are terrible. I didn't make it anywhere near where I wanted to with it. Basically, I was able to get the matte painting done. Semi-icify the water. Deal with the trees, replace the sky (poorly). And add very rudimentary snow to the pines.

This is no where near where I could have gotten it. Never even had the chance to push into Maya for some real particles. Though Particular did an okay job. It was the first time I had used it to create snow (doesn't say much for a 10minute particle job though). But yeah...I tried to get something out there to show you all, since it sounds as if everyone is a little rough here. Granted I uploaded two hours past the deadline. :D

Full breakdown to come.

-Matt

I a waiting like you for the results and for the the voting stage whee we can see what each has done.

good luck to all, and enter this one, do the next one.

So glad you entered Mattykins! We're going to post the entries anonymously and let people vote so, if you could, send me your breakdown privately (I'll send you a PM). I'm asking all entrants to do breakdowns as the real purpose of these fests is to learn techniques. As soon as the voting is over we'll post all the breakdowns.

Mark
