DVXuser Forum Upgrade: Feedback, Questions, Answers...

The search results oddly cut off the bottom of the fonts as well, so you can only read text by the top half of words!

When I log in it comes back up with the username/password box, like I didn't really log in.

When you search the highlighted search words are white on yellow, which is very hard to read.

I also liked the different colors on the forums indicating new posts. Now it's just a dim or bright thing, and a lot harder to distinguish at a glance.

Like noworries said above, I can no longer tell which threads I've read and which ones I haven't. I can't believe everyone likes this. I've used vBulletin for years on two very large video game related sites that I run. v4.0 is complete garbage. We stayed at 3.8.x on one forum and switched the other one to Invision Power Board. Honestly, if I had it to do over again, I would have went with phpBB.

Is there a way to set a fixed width viewing mode? On my monitor's 1920x1600 resolution, DVXUser has always been a bit tough to read since the fluid width makes posts so wide... Having a fixed width option would be a great new feature!

Huge +1 for me as well.

Also just my 2 cents, the different blue balls next to the threads showing if they are new or not are pretty close in color. Sure you can tell the difference but
not without really looking for it. I'd personally love to see a bit more difference between the 2.

Small bugs:

White on white text in Search forum and Search thread input boxes. Looks funny. Best is to make background bark gray. For main pos edit box also.

Jason,

Please modify the icons for "contains new post and no new post" before, the 'unread; is yellow and very clear, now its similar in hue, bright blue and slightly desaturated. Its not easy to spot especially on some monitors.

Before its easy and fast to scan along the main forum index to spot to new posts, now I have to slow down because the icons are so similar and easy to miss.

All the best,
Ted

what browser are you using, Vitaliy? I'm seeing black text on white in those search boxes in ie8, firefox, and chrome...

I think that I already told about IE7. More correct - tabbed browser with IE7 core. But bug is present in pure IE7 also.
If you select text or press Search you see blue italic text.

i like the new design
one thing i've noticed tho, not only on this forum but in many others, is that when you log in, even tho it went thru, it still shows you as logged off, but once you go to the forum list, you can see the menu for settings and what not.

Is it possible now to view youtube videos in fullscreen mode now? Here in dvxuser the button was missing in the past.

Since I'm fairly conservative, change is often hard to accept, ha ha! Maybe the new fonts/format will grow on me. It's just different right now.

You are very efficient, Mr Ramsey.

Thanks for changing the reply box. Light grey box with black text is better than the white/black. Honestly, dark grey box with white text is more fitting with the theme of the site (and my tastes), but at least it doesn't burn my retinas anymore.

yup. it will be.... just a bit of conflict between different browsers... changes one, not the other..... but figured this'll do for now :)

working on other changes in a new style that isn't live on the site currently

Took me a while to get used to it. But now (with the darker background) I really start liking it.
Looks good and works smooth here on Opera. Great job Jason.

Hi Jason - another small thing that eerks me a bit: The length of the columns when viewing a thread list. The title of the thread column is the biggest, but could be bigger in my opinion (including the row height). The more annoying part for me is that the views, last post and forum columns are so big, with itty-bitty font. Just seems to take up too much real estate. Either make them smaller, or make the font bigger on those. Of importance is not the word replies, views, last post or forum, but the actual information such as "30", "Today at 08:14pm" and "MarketPlace / Buying Gear". Seems I used to take in those details easily, but now have to look multiple times (sometimes squinting) to catch when, where and how many.

Also, what happened to the "today's posts" quick link?

Thanks again.

Jason

Small thing. It's hard to tell at first glance which sub forums are "active" or have new replies. The blue and faded blue is pretty similar. Can we get something with more distinction. You don't need to set the dot on fire or anything :D but maybe another color?

I've run into a pretty big bug, I think. When I search for "steadicam", it shows that the most recent post has been in September, when I know that there have been posts in the last week - certainly if not the last month, that contained that word (like this one, updated yesterday: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?225230-Is-this-safe )

Has the search function dramatically changed? That alone has pretty dramatically cut into how I browse DVXUser.
