DVXuser.com exclusive hands on with the HVX200

Hi Rush,
Well it seems I will be able to edit native HD with the upgraded new powerbook g4 and see what I'm doing on its screen at its screen resolution (obviously not HD) using Final Cut Pro5.
Then just export edited native HD for viewing in HD resolution on whatever HD screen or TV.
I was talking to an Apple Tech guy who said the g4 graphics card would be fine for that if I upgrade to 2gig ram and 7200 rpm drive.
So that's good news, just hope I don't run into any probs, will let you know how I get on with the system.

... or just wait till 10th Jan, if Steve (Jobs) will release new powerbook line with way more speedy Intel bug - as everybody impatient Apple/nonApple user wish

or maybe he release only Intel iMac ... who knows

Exactly Barra, I am sorry if I didn't make myself clear, I meant you would not be able to view at full res. I heard as well, Jan said they just edited a piece on the spot yesterday on a 3 year old Powerbook, and made it available for the HVX Launch today.

I love That !
I have an older PB with 2 Gigs of Ram and a 7200 drive and am looking forward to seeing how this beast works it

just back from dv expo. The hvx is a really nice machine. still annoyed with the fixed glass, but what can you do. Footage from it was as expected. Great. 2/3 ccds would be so cool. Guess have to wait for the next great thing.... mini varicam.

I just came back. The footage from the HVX that I saw displayed on one of those Panny 720P HD LCD monitors, stuff shot on 1080P that Barry and Jarred did will silence all skeptics and disbelievers. This camera is going to change everything. Fay king a may zing!

Yeah, the HVX at our booth was the main attraction today. We had it in the center of the booth so that people can easily see it from all sides. We had maybe 200 people stop by and check it out. Most everyone's curiosity involved how the formats can change easily in the Menu, how smooth is the focus, how good is the focus assist, how does it feel in handheld, where are all the jacks for a/v and firewire, and how good does the 24p look. We were all amazed with the quality.

Tomorrow, we will have a 17" Panny LCD up for people to play with. We had it today, but couldn't find room for it where it wouldn't get toppled over. But now we got it worked out. Also, Cinetech has promised a full follow focus rig, and Chrosziel a mattebox, so that the camera tomorrow will be decked out. Here it was today, on the left, with the DVX on its right on a Cinetech follow focus:

I will be getting more pics tomorrow of everything. Today, it was difficult to get away from the booth.

Thanks again Rush,
Well that's definitively clear on the editing side then.
I presume then (although it is not definitively spelled out on either Panny or Apple site) that I will be able to record streaming DVCproHD over firewire directly from the HVX to my PowerBook through the capture window of FCP5? This is still a slight worry for me.
Also that the new Powerbook will recognise the P2 card without P2 viewer which I gather only Windows supports - I presume that again using FCP it will recognise the P2 card in the PowerBook slot.

barra,

jan mentioned as of yesterday, apple had a fix for the p2 being able to be read by a pcmcia slot of a powerbook. so should work now.
