DVXUser, a few very active

So apparently there's 40,000+ members here. But if you go look at the member list, there are less than 250 of us that have more than 1000 posts. Roughly the next 250 members have contributed somewhere in the 500-1000 post range. By the time you hit the 1000 top posters, they have less than 250 posts apiece. If you go to the 2039 top posters, the amount drops to only those who have made 100 posts or more.

Interesting that DVXUser is really just a few hundred people who post repeatedly, and then maybe a thousand or so casual users, then a bunch of lookyloos who rarely post.

I think a "lookyloo(s)" tag should be slapped on this thread. What a great poo pooing word. One of my all-time favorites. All bullshi* aside, I'm dead serious. I'm also drunk.

My hat off to you, sir.

whoa. i have more posts than i thought. jarred land's number seems suspicious to me :), unless he registered dvxuser.com and spent the first year in here alone posting 50,000 replies to his own questions.

same here. but I was pleased to see I was on page 3 of the most active members list :) And I've been spending most of my online time on REDuser. (I'm Brandon over there)

It may be only 250 members you see repeatedly, but what a 250 they are! I came here in 2004 after graduating high school when I really wanted to get into filmmaking, and this community taught me everything I wasn't able to teach myself. You guys rock! :D

sheesh crikey and all that BS, I'm already getting PM asking me why I'm spitting on DVXuser. Frick me. I found this amusing and i'm tired, about to go to bed, so I thought I'd post a little statistics I wasted some time on. Please stop trying to scarecrow me.

Pm's are not for harassment of members, whoever shawneous is referring to.

Also, please relay any issues regarding you deem harassment (or otherwise inappropriate) from other members (either via pm or the public boards) to one of the moderators, rather than posting them in the forum so that it can be dealt with if necessary or requested.

I would say "few, very active posters" would be an accurate statement. But, as you pointed out, there are a great many folks who post little or not at all, but who are registered and very 'active' "lookyloo's".

spitting on DVXuser? I'm tired myself, I'm not sure what they're accusing you of. I suggest ALL DVXusers go to bed now. No I dont care what time zone you're in.

I see you all in 8 hours.

Some of us speak whenever possible, building up the number of postings, while others just comment only whenever necessary. The number of posts means nothing, it's the actual information given. Heck if posted in every thread, I could be "DVX god" or something of that nature. Hmmmmm, "DVX God" I like that.

But first off I have an HVX, and secondly, could not care less what you guys think of me. phhbbbbbbbbt!:nads:

Every forum has a lot of inactive members. Typically, on a forum like this, a large percentage of people will register to ask just one or two questions and then go on their way. The hit and runners. Then, as previously mentioned, there is a large percentage of "lookiloos". The observers. All that remains are the active posters. People like you and I, who like to interact with others that have a common interest.

I'm just glad the active members here are cool. Normally I'm not allowed to associate with cool people. Me being a dork and all

I was lookyloo for about 1 year or so then I said, what the heck, let bore everyone in this forum!!!!! and I started posting hehehe.

Working my way up :D Trying my best to participate here.

One good example of an awesome casual poster is Herman Witkam. He doesn't post much, but is one hell of a contribution to this board!

PK nailed it on the head. I bet many registered users did so to ask one question they were stumped on, or sometimes images are not able to be seen unless you are logged in.

Many people I've met know what DVXuser is and have visited, but they don't participate. They simply like the resource as.... a resource, nothing more. In fact DVXuser is more friendly to lookiloos then other forums.

Some other forum sites require you to log in to gain access to select threads or sections of the site. I believe here at DVXuser, only a certain type of posted pictures are the only time you must log in. Otherwise guests are truly open to lurk around at will.

I am a former looklilooer was maybe 18months? before I posted anything.

My experience in that time includes being threatened, being drunk, being rickrolled 300 plus times, having enjoyable debates, laughing, meeting some cool people in different locations from the forum in a few places around the world, being hired (quite a few times), being called names (they always make me laugh), sometimes upsetting people (I dont mean to, but I do have an opinion based on my perspective of the world and sometimes saying so is enough), being given good advice and sometimes I can be found staring at Horses avatar. I can honestly say though if I do see an opportunity to contribute, I try to. And as I am coming up on my 5000th post, I guess I should do some kind of video, something where I try on different hats so you all can get to know my playful side.

Although there are very few who make large contributions, even those are relatively small in scope.

Just for kicks, as of tonight:

Shawneous has 1/10th (0.1049%) of a single percent of all posts here on DVXuser.

PK has 3.5/10th's (0.3499%) of a percent of all posts here on DVXuser.

Zak has almost exactly 3/10th's (0.3058%) of 1 percent of all posts here on DVXuser.

Callaghan has 1.6/10th's (0.16053%) of 1 percent of all posts here on DVXuser.

I only have 1.3/10th's (0.1354%) of 1 percent of all posts here on DVXuser.

Ramsey has 4.3/10th's (0.4374%) of 1 percent of all posts here on DVXuser.

To achieve half of 1 percent (0.5%) you would need 7,000 posts. As you see, there are very few heavily active people... but even they don't carry the weight.

Now for some big dogs not in this discussion:

Barry Green carries a solid %2 of all posts here on DVXuser. This means 1 in every 50 posts. But since he knows what he is talking about I think this hardly counts! :)

J.R Hudson has 1.62% of all posts.

Brandon Rice has %1 of all posts.

If you curious about others, simply do the math... (# of posts from specific person divided by the total amount of posts in forum... multiplied by 100 for the percentage) etc, etc, etc.

This was not meant to be a contest but simply showing that some of us who post often are still just fractions of a single percent of content on this site!

PS: I agree with Zak, I wasn't here for the beginning of DVXuser, but for Jarred to have that many posts, he must have been talking to himself a mighty lot! :)
"Hello? Is this thing on?"
