Your choice in phrases reminded me of Philip Roth's "The Human Stain."

I keep checking, too.

An official announcement is coming soon, but I can make an informal one…

This October, fear returns to DVXUser in…

HORRORFEST II: Return of HORRORFEST!

And this one is going to be wide open. However you define (or want to redefine) "horror," bring it.

Official details will be coming in a week or two!

What is DVXfest?

DVXFests are a series of online film festivals we organize for our members to participate in. For a while, we were doing fests three times a year, with some pretty killer prizes to boot. But over time, we saw a marked decline in the number of entries, and so the Fests took a short hiatus.

Now we're back with HorrorFest II, our Halloween-timed fest, which has always been one of, if not the most-entered of our online fests.

More than anything, it's an opportunity for DVX members to make films, share them, and learn/grow as filmmakers.

Just to let you guys know, we'll be posting the rules and opening the forum within a week. Just need to write up some rules (we will keep it simple) and confirm our distribution method. we will probably make the films available on youtube or vimeo (commercial free, of course) to handle the streaming this time (and can be embedded in your thread, on dvxfest, watched on yt, etc), and we will maintain a page that has direct download links for those who still prefer that.

File size will be more generous this time.

Working on confirming a few more good prizes ready to announce on the same day with the rules. More info on voting later. we will probably do a combination of audience favorite and juror selections this time around.

If all goes according to plan, finalists from HORRORfest 2 can look forward to a live screening and additional competition for their film in Summer'ish 2014. But, that is all very preliminary.

Later.

Fear not I shall be there to produce an amaaaaazing video feedback and if i can get some time before Lord of Tears is released, an entry too!

Very cool, Jason.

I wondered if any thought had been given to the idea of not only more generous file sizes, but time too? I do completely understand the point that the fests are meant to be learning exercises, but I don't think 6 minute limits need to be set in stone. I realize this kind of thing could be opening up a can of worms, but I do feel that an extra, say, 3 min would give the participants a reasonable amount of space for better/clarified storytelling.

Bad will always be bad, (plenty of it) and yes most of the time "less is more" but I don't really think a little extra time is going to kill things.

file sizes will be more generous.

Length? eh, we'll see... Things will be pretty standard for this fest as far as that stuff goes, except simplified.

If all goes well, though... the next one after this will open up the options for the fest dramatically.

What? Have my eyes deceived me? Can this really be true?
Return of the DVXFest! WOOHOO!!

Can't wait...might be just the time to blow the dust off the old DVX100b and go retro on this fest.
