Hi all,
I've been shooting primarily with the DVX200 since I bought it in January. Thought I'd post a few diverse samples of my work to those who are on the fence about buying it. Below is what I've been able to achieve with this camera.

Business Promotion (glidecam) (SCN 3) (4K) (60FPS @ 1/120 - 120fps @ 1/250) - Firmware 1.65
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y-QdNwDlVU

Wedding Videography (SCN 3) (24fps @ 1/48) - Firmware 1.65
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4njQKn5i7eA

30 sec Commercial (SCN 1) (24fps @ 1/48) - Firmware 1.5.2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcIg6iKQgFE

Event Videography (glidecam) (SCN 5) (4k) (60FPS @ 1/120 - 120FPS @ 1/250) - Firmware 1.5.2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKx4I2tyxZE

Sunny on a Sunday (graded V-Log) (SCN3) (4K DCI) (24FPS @ 1/48) - edited and exported as 4096x1714 or 2.39:1 - Firmware 1.65
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZtjh-5w2QE

Hope this helps someone out! All projects exported as 24fps. I used the then-current firmware for each project.

BTW I'd edit the title of this post but apparently it's locked in. I expanded the scope of this post afterward, sorry!

Looks really good! You should put DVX200 in the notes section of the You Tube videos. So many people have posted stuff shot in the old firmware and it really gives the camera a bad rap. This is the kind of stuff that people need to see. Nice work!!

Good idea! I'll add those in.

I went to check out all your videos and I watched them all in full lenght, thank you for posting your videos and thank you for helping us beginners on how to manage this ground breaking camera, big fan here of your work

Very Nice work! I''m just curious, I have a 40" 4K Monitor that I use for my Win PC using Adobe CC 2015 Apps. I also have it color calibrated, and I'm happy with it. I've said this to say, most of the Skin Tones that I see look pretty pink to me, especially in the wedding video. I'm also wondering if the Blacks seem crushed and not much shadow detail, Is that the Look that you are going for? I know color grading, or using log or scene files are subjective, that's why I'm asking, No offense meant! Also were the 1080P videos shot in 4K and down sampled to 1080P? I noticed that the event video is in 4K. Like your editing a lot.

Thanks for the message! Interesting that you noticed that about my footage. I may have a few explanations.
Even though I've had the camera for months, I'm still getting used to working with it. The biggest challenge I personally run into is finding correct exposure in various locations. For the Zumba video, I actually bumped up the brightness by 15% in almost every clip in post. Then I had to bump up the contrast in the same clips to bring my blacks back. That's on top of me using SCN5 which is already contrasty. If I were to do that video again, I probably wouldn't have used SCN5. Luckily I was just experimenting...I did that video for free because it was one of the first videos I made with the DVX200 that wasn't just for my own practice.

The Acura was sort of the opposite...I found that I kept overexposing the white car in the sun...so I lowered the brightness by about 10-20% in every clip in post. So in both cases, that's where my blacks probably were getting crushed. :( If anyone has any other methods for brightening/darkening footage that doesn't lose shadow detail, let me know.

As for pink skin tones in the wedding video, I noticed it most on the bride, but I think that she just had a glow from the tanning bed. I didn't notice the pink so much on anyone else, but that could just be my eye. The guy in the Acura video looked a bit pink here and there, but not enough for me to worry about trying to fix it. Honestly, I just set the camera at 5600k for all of the outside day shots in all the videos and just trusted the camera to record accurate colors from that. I used a polarizer though, so maybe that changed the color temp a bit? What do you think?

In these cases, if I exported out in 1080, the original footage was shot in 1080.

Well I myself like a month ago decided to buy the glide gear dna 6002 but i really had a hard time balancing so I returned it but afterwards after thinking about it I decided to give it another shot and dedicated myself completely to balancing and learning how to used it properly, well the s*%t broke it half, i believe my product was defected, both top plates were to hard to take apart and closed together again , well those forces broked it, well good thing amazon has a good return policy, returns my defected product, I decided to take the plunge after watching so many reviews and videos on the Devin Graham Signature Glidecam. I know is very expensive but i believe it will make a difference and I will achieved the results i want so badly, i will getting it this coming friday, wish me luck guys, thanks again ED Ricker for pointing me in the right direction, the only bad thing that i only have enough for the glidecam and not vest and arm cause i know your hand gets tired quickly so hopefully as soon as possible i will buy the vest and arm, can anyone point me to a good vest and arm for my new glidecam baby

If anyone wanted to see my latest 4K DCI V-Log video cropped to 2.39:1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZtjh-5w2QE

Congrats on the Signature series Glidecam! I love it so much. Don't worry, I decided not to buy a vest or arm either...not worth the money at the moment for me.

I love the color! Nice video! But, I was wondering, to me the blacks look crushed, and not much detail in the shadows, Is that the look you were looking for? Also, the clip of the dog in slow-mo jumping the log there is a fair amount of noise, is that all from Youtube or vimeo compression?

7DDude, I think you and I just have a different eye at this point. I added a bit of contrast on top of the LUT I used, so maybe that's where the blacks get crushed. I added contrast to my liking though, so it must just be personal taste on my end.

I'd be very interested to see some of your footage with the DVX200 to see what coloring, contrast and blacks you prefer for your footage. Right now I just have mine to go by, so it's difficult to explain my rationale. I edit using the BenQ BL2711U monitor, but it's probably not accurately calibrated like yours.

The slow-mo was 120fps using the Variable Frame Rate function. With the DVX200, you can only record 120fps at 1080, and it's a very soft 1080. Also, I recorded it too dark, so I brightened it up immensely in post. That's where the noise is coming from. Live and learn!

i hate to be a jerk. but a large number of your shots are bouncy, or start and or stop with bobs or jerks (in the wedding and nsx clips). is that the OIS or do you just have areally bad tripod?

conversely. there are a number of quite nice shots among the links.

Haha, no offense taken. Well, I only use a tripod for the ceremony and the first dances. Everything else is hand held, so that's the OIS doing its best with me being mobile. I hate to be locked down on a tripod, so I rarely use one unless I know I'm going to be in one place for a long time. Even the establishing shots at the beginning are handheld.

I also don't use a slider, I don't own one. So all of the shots moving through space are usually just me rocking from side to side on my own human legs.

As for the Acura video, that was entirely handheld and/or glidecam so little jerks are unavoidable. I'm not looking for perfect mechanical steadiness in either case. I'd rather get the shot as it happens and be completely mobile.
As Bob Ross would say about the jerks, they're just happy little accidents.

I did 1500 weddings over 16 years and only used a tripod for the very first one. Impossible to use in most ceremonies.

From then on I used a monopod, and only took a tripod to the reception, when I used both at different times.

Good monopod footage can easily be stabilized in post, giving you the best of both worlds.

Cheers,

Vaughan

Good idea about the monopod. I usually have the time and the space to use a tripod for the ceremony and the dances/toasts of the reception, but literally everything else is always handheld.
