DVX200 + VariZoom

Just a quick question to all possibly use the DVX with a VatiZoom remote:
I use the VZ-Rock-PZFI (Rock-DVX-ZFI) remote. Works well but I'm unable to use the AREA (with the yellow dashed frame) mode. If I tap the userbutton the cam responds "Invalid". So with the remote connected this function can not be used.
Does anybody use a VariZoom remote and has the same limitations? If AREA is on and I connect the remote it goes off.
But AF-Area (with the red rectangular frame), if its on, stays on after connecting the remote. But can not be switched off.
Simililar experience???
Thank you.

I suspect if you use the controller only for s/s and zoom, leaving out the iris/focus plug, area mode will function correctly.

@larry:
but this is not a solution. A cam remote should work with all features. I have contacted my dealer and he tested the VariZoom, Manfrotto and Bebob. Same with all remotes. At the moment you plug the 3.5mm plug in, the area goes off and can not switched on again. Respone from the DVX: Invalid
So from the point of view of my dealer it is definitv a firmware problem of the DVX. Only Panasonic can solve it. Area focus is a great help and it should be available with a connected remote!
thank you
Jack

My suggestion would only be a "solution" if the operator didn't really use the focus/iris functionality of the remote and was plugging in that connector "because it was there". I could see that being the case for some. Panasonic probably could make a f/w change for this.

In the same topic, should the camera warn an operator when they use the manual focus ring when the camera has Auto-focus enabled? One might argue that "Invalid" should be displayed when that scenario occurs.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me either. The AREA mode is a focus/iris control. The Focus/Iris controller is a focus/iris control. How are those two supposed to work together? They don't. You pick one or the other. The AREA mode also won't work if you're using the wi-fi AG ROP APP either; the AG ROP app is a focus/iris controller, and therefore AREA mode won't work while it's active.

If you want to use the AREA mode, then unplug the focus/iris controller from the jack. You'll still have zoom and start/stop control. When you're done with the AREA mode, you can plug the controller back in.

It may not fit your definition of "ideal", but it'll work.

@Barry Green
As you say, this is a non ideal work around. Probably Panasonic want to fix it, probably not.
I have found another much better remote with progammable focuspoints. iris and focus limits. Look at this:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pare-camera-remote-controller#/
With this features we can compensate a bit the non available area mode.
But it's new and will come in April / May.....

Was anybody looking at the spects of this remote? What is your thinking about?
tks for some comments!:undecided

It seems that noone ist intrested in a cam remote. I find it very helpful, especially in situations where the tripot is fully extended to look over the crowd. In such situations it is almost impossible to manipulate the Cam on its own controls. I can do it only with the remote (and a 2nd monitor). But the avaliable products are not the bummer... So I ask again what do you think about this:

Thank you for your advise!
