DVX100B zoom Problem

This is my second attempt to get into this forum. You guys are a great source for all kinds of info. I've learned lots of great stuff. Now, I've got a specific problem...
My zoom (rocker W to T) doesn't get the zoom to work every time. It's like it needs to be hand started with the knob on the lens. I've tried changing the switch on the front back and forth from manual to auto. Anything I'm missing? Is this a common problem? Since I'm new to the 100B I could certainly be missing something.

Have you, by any chance, manually turned the zoom ring with the zoom in servo mode? If you manually turn the zoom ring with the zoom in servo mode, it will damage the zoom.

When I first got my 100b, I accidentally did this a couple of times and luckily it did not damage the zoom. But I'd imagine if it were done repeatedly that it would.
