DVX100B vs XHA1 (Lowlight)

I got these two cameras and have been comparing them in lowlight conditions. I found that DVX100B is brighter (see more) as compared to Canon XHA1. What I did was hook up the video out to a TV and compared the output of the scenes on both cameras and using the widest aperture both camera can give and using 60i.

I do not know if this is the correct way to do the comparison. But I also verified this on their internal LCDs and it also yielded the same results. the DVX100B is brighter as compared to XHa1.

My settings in the XHA1 is the PANALOOK setting (dvinfo.net) and AGC off, set the gain to 6db. The DVX100B is the default setting with gain alos set to 6db.

If I set the XHA1 to 12db, it is closer to the DVX100B. Anybody have the same experience? Please I am not starting a PANA vs Canon war here as I love both cameras.

Thanks.

That's exactly what you should be seeing, yes. All the HD cams are slower than their SD equivalents. 12dB of gain = about 2 stops, which is about right.

No prob, it's just part of the new dynamic with the HD cameras. The HVX is a full stop slower than the DVX, and two stops slower in 60i mode. And the V1U is three stops slower than the DVX. It's just what we have to deal with when going to 1/3" HD.
