DVX100B--tape transfer problem

My Dad has just bought a DVX100B, and I'm new to the whole video camera thing. I've got everything is up and running fine except that I can't get the footage onto my computer. I've bought a DV fire wire cable and while the computer recognizes the DVX, I can't get it to transfer. I've tried it with 2 software editing programs: Windows Moviemaker and U-Lead Studio 5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get yourself a Mac?
Did you try hooking it all up with the power off and then power it on? are you sure your cam is in VHS mode?
