DVX100B stop motion?

Can stop motion be done effectively with the dvx 100B? I have heard of using a laptop(macbook) and running firewire from the camera to the computer and using a program. Is that the best way? I don't have a laptop currently and would like to get one but money is tight and a mic is priority right now. Just thought i would ask.

Thanks

DV-Rack now called Adobe Onlocation has all of the tools for stop motion, timelapse, as well as the normal dedicated capture tools for regular shooting.

SD cameras like the dvx series have low enough data rates that allow longer run firewire cables to be used. I have a set of 30ft. and 70ft. cables from Laird which have worked great.

Direct capture to laptop is nice, in fact I rarely ever use tape with my setup, but isn't an absolute requirement if you're doing local tabletop work. Just use your tower and a good length cable with the software and camera.

As with the above. I've done it effectively. There is also a good supply of free software with the same features for this particular work.
