DVX100B Rebates/Clearance

So as we all know Panasonic has recently had 2 rebates on the beloved DVX100B the $250 end-user rebate. And the Red Giant effect's bundle with Barry Green's DVX book. When the DVX100A was being replaced with the DVX100B they had the nearly $1300 in cash and accessories. And now the DVX seems more expensive online then before. If anyone has information on the production of the DVX100B or any information please tell us. We all want DVX's for cheap!

I've seen such a wide range of prices that half these sites I don't even trust.
From $1800-$3500

I'm going to be paying $2300 for mine. Sure would like to find a new one for cheaper,
but I want a great machine, so I'll pay it.

Going to order mine from B&H Photo.

This camera is currently over priced in my opinion. It should be priced at bhphoto for around $1500 to 1800 but it is still priced at around $2500. I would still love to have one but why spend that kind of money for SD technology?

Yes, but remember that the DVX100A's list price at that time was $3995. The 100B's list price, at this time, is $2995.

You would be surprised at how many people still want exactly that. SD, 4:3, and tape. Lots and lots of them. The DVX is still a top seller throughout India and much of southeast Asia, where 4:3 is the standard and nobody even wants to hear about 16:9.

Even in America, the basic cable industry is pretty much primarily 4:3 SD. There are hundreds of channels that are 4:3 SD. Yes that's slipping and 16:9 and/or HD are catching on, but ...

... I guess the point is, when nobody wants to buy them anymore, Panasonic will quit selling DVXs. Until then, they're still selling quite a few.

2 quick questions:

So do you think in our current state of HD starting to take over, it would make more sense to just hold out a little longer and save a few extra bucks and buy an HMC over the DVX? (I think price difference is about $1000 bucks @ B&H right now.) Or would buying a DVX right now make more sense as we'd save $1000?

Also 2nd question was if I go and buy a new DVX right now from B&H or where ever, does it still come with the rebates, book, computer software etc.? Or is it just the camera and that's all?

Yes. I would unquestionably buy an HMC150 over a DVX, unless you absolutely need a) standard-def recording, or b) tape recording. For any other purpose the HMC150 smokes the DVX.

Barry, when do you think the DVX will become completely obsolete?
By obsolete I mean that SD is no more, and tape is no more. Do you think that it would ever drop to a consumer level just for the web where it doesn't matter about HD?
