DVX100B Rebate

Hey guys,
So I just purchased my 100B on Friday from EVS, and now I'm trying to get my warranty taken care of, along with my rebate. First of all, I don't know how to find the warranty. Is it just filling out the online registration form?
Secondly, I tried filling out the rebate form, and when I fill it out, it repeatedly told me that my serial number was invalid. Could somebody tell me what the serial number for the 100B format is supposed to look like, for example if there is an arrangment of numbers and letters and I'm confusing a zero with an "O"? Also, at the end of my serial number, it looks like there is a space, and then an R. I tried filling out the form with it and without it, and it still didn't work.
Any help?

Thanks a lot,
Matt

I'm in the same boat....I just received the DVX100B from EVS (I'm very happy with my purchase!) and recently filled out registration and rebate forms.

For the rebate offer I had some trouble too with filling out the form....it finally ended up working for me when I DID NOT type in the space and letter R. So for example, if the serial # reads ABC12345 R - try just putting in ABC12345. It worked for me......oh and to clear the mix up with 0 and O, you will notice that letters are a tad smaller in size than the numbers.

For the warranty all you need to do is hold onto the warranty form that came with your camera and receipt of purchase, but it is a good idea to register it with Panasonic anyway.

Thanks for the reply Kevin... I've tried that, and it still doesn't work for me.

Also, if I might ask you... This might be better to test when you turn the camera on, otherwise the clicking from the OIS will override it... But, when you pan up and down, do you hear a click in the viewfinder? I read a post a while back from somebody who had the same problem, and he sent his camera back... I'm wondering if all the Bs are having this problem, or if it's something worthy of exchange.

Thanks,
Matt

For the rebate form -- make sure the serial # letters are in CAPS (if its like that on your camera, which it should be...). Try again just typing in the combination of letters and numbers and leave out the space and R. It took me a couple tries messing around with entering the serial # before it finally got accepted. Try opening a new window everytime just in case the form doesn't refresh itself.

Well I just tried out the up and down pan with the camera while it was on and I DID hear a tiny click in the viewfinder. I'm not quite sure what it is, if it a defect or not, but I know it is definitely different from the click of the OIS when the camera is off. Hmmmmm......it doesn't seem like it is anything serious or broken. I'm gonna look around and see if it is something wrong or just another natural clicking noise we gotta live with.....

Hope you get your rebate.....

..oh...

...my...

well first off...the ''clicking'' noise of when you pan your camera up and down could be a defect......my little crapzor Sony does it too, and ive had it for like 6 years already....

But forget about that unimportant clicking sound in the lens.....the registration is mooree important.....the serial number is under the viewfinder..

good luck with that clicking 'ol chaps!!

If you can't enter the serial number into the rebate form, you might have one of the knock-off's that have begun to appear. It means the serial number isn't a genuine Panasonic number, they just make it look official.
Panasonic has been "VERY" quiet about this problem, as it would cause people to question if they have a real Panasonic DVX100b.
The click in the viewfinder is another giveaway of the fake, they use the cheapest parts they can. I bet you're having problems registering it to?

Try to contact EVS ASAP, maybe they can help you out.

Good luck!

Rush, I was replying somewhat skeptically to Pookie's statement about knockoff cams. I just a minute ago successfully applied for the 100B rebate on Panasonic's site, and the trick is, as Kevin B pointed out, not including the space or "R" after the serial number. Panasonic instructs you to enter the serial number exactly as it appears under the viewfinder, but if you do that, it won't work. I'm wondering if making the rebate challenging to get is the mark of a valued rebate manager.

That's a helluva statement  I guess that would be very corporate minded indeed, but I think it's more like Panasonic wants you to be very accurate about the entry to discourage false claims. I can't even imagine how many they get bombarded with.

No they're exclusively commenting about the Viewfinder click sound.

So Rush, is the faint click noise that can be heard in the viewfinder when panning the camera up and down (when the camera is on) a defect or not? To me I can make out a single light click in the viewfinder when the camera is on and tilted upward slightly at about a 45 degree angle. When the diopter focus dial is turned all the way out of focus the click stops - is it a loose lens in the viewfinder or is normal? I didn't even notice it until it was pointed out and it doesn't seem to affect anything about the camera but I'd just like to be sure. Thanks.....

Hi Kevin, the guys were just messing with Matthew, sorta like an initiation thing into DVXuser, and I explained that to him. The image stabilization click is a natural part of any DVX. As far as the viewfinder thing, I guess that's also normal, I don't usually use the VF, so maybe mine is set in all the way, but I will test one of my rental cameras tomorrow to see.

Hey Guys. I just bought a DVX100b as well, but I have a question about the zoom. When on the slowest setting, the zoom isn't smooth at all. I'll film a quick demo to show you.

Also, The rebate form accepted my serial number, but it says that it could not verify it. I know that my unit is not a grey market camera. I purchased it from an authorized dealer. (Great Northern Video in Pembroke, NH). Has anyone else had this? Should I call up Panasonic?

Thanks

Thanks Pookie

Kevin, all my DVX's, as well as Matthew's make that Viewfinder sound. Depends on where you have the focus set. Nature of the beast.

Cellarrest, if you are using the handle zoom, it is not supposed to be smooth, just consistent. On the variable zoom rocker, all the DVX's have a slight :bump: when you first initiate the zoom.

As far as registering, a lot of the 100B's are just not registering. I have gotten some calls about that lately. Just call the rebate helpdesk and they will guide you:
