DVX100B or HVX200???

If you have money go the HVX for sure. If you dont the DVX is a great cam in its own right and wont dissappoint from an SD perspective.

Take out a small bank loan or put it on 2 credit cards. If you're not in debt already, you will be soon regardless of whether or not you get an HVX or DVX. As filmmakers, we're going to rack up debt on all kinds of purchases once we commit to making films or starting careers as cam ops, ect. Just my 2 cents.

I'm currently deciding on which of these two cameras to buy, so i'll just post my question here instead of starting a new thread.

Im interested in the dvx100b because of its film-like quality (24p). I'm not interested in buying an HD camera because it does not look as film-like to me.
My first question is can the HVX200 film in a non-high definition format (standard definition?) that basically resembles the dvx100b?

i really like the slow-motion work that can be done on the HVX but i want the film-like quality (non-high def.) that is provided by the DVX. Is it even worth to pay the extra money for the HVX for the slow motion capabilities or can good looking slow motion be done with the dvx100b as well?

Dave - the HVX will record DV, but the quality is not nearly as good as that recorded by the DVX. I'm told that this is because the camera always records HD, then downconverts it to DV. A better option for SD is to use the HVX to record in DVCPRO 50, which gives much higher quality SD at 50 Mbps. You will need a higher level editing program to handle this, but the reults are worth it. I've had my HVX for about six weeks, and I love it. If you really want to stick with DV, buy the DVX. Good luck !

The HVX records DV that can look noticeably better than the DVX's DV, if shot 16:9 and 24p.

The HVX is the most filmlike of the small HD camcorders in my opinion. Your premise is faulty from the beginning (that the DVX is more filmlike than the HVX). The HVX is a high-def DVX, and also a standard-def DVX too. And a lot more.

There are reasons the HVX costs more than the DVX. DVX is a great standard-def camera, but the HVX can match it and do much more (hence why it costs more).

The only thing the DVX does that is clearly superior to the HVX is 480/60i. But if you want filmlike looks you wouldn't be shooting in that mode anyway.

i just purchased a 100B to start out in my quest to do video as career. i wasnt in need of HD at the moment, so i got that one. if things go well, i may get the HVX as an add on, for multicamera, and for its HD. but if its not that important for what i am doing, i might just get another 100B...

the dvx is better in lowlight than the hvx. its because of the pixelcount.
more pixel on 1/3 chip the more less sensitivity.

whats the experience with mpeg2 artifacts in hdv?
is it horible on fast movements?

regards, thomas
