Now thats what i'm talkin about man. The DVX has MOJO, the HV20 does not, not even a little. You can make motion picture films with the DVX, and you can try and win the major prize on Funniest home videos with the HV20.Yeah, I even got one job when I was on the side of the road shooting for another job and a guy (someone in the neighborhood) drove by and stopped and said, hey that's quite a camera...do you do this professionally? And of course I said yes, and he proceeded to share with me that he would like to create a professional video to represent his helicopter flying business... and would like me to stop by when I finish this job...
Instant trust. Legitimacy.
Pretty cool.
Ha....hey Shaun how was your holidays? Now thats what i'm talkin about man. The DVX has MOJO, the HV20 does not, not even a little. You can make motion picture films with the DVX, and you can try and win the major prize on Funniest home videos with the HV20.
Its all about mojo.
Ian said:A DVX would be like an expensive craftsman flathead screwdriver while the HV20 is like a cheap back of the shelf K-Mart brand.
LOL...I stand corrected. I can deal with that.:cheesy:This isnt the analogy. In your analogy, the screwdrivers would work exactly the same, the K-Mart one would just not last as long.
The proper analogy is that the HV20 is the Craftsman Flathead - good at doing one thing. The DVX is a set of screwdrivers that can adapt to any screwing situation.
I'd like to think I have some "mojo' with my 20...but...hey...
This will be good, the end delivery format is what will tell the difference though. At the end of the day, its all about what look you want out of the cam as well. These 2 cams are so far apart in what you would typically use them for, so its really semantics were debating here. When I say Mojo I am saying that the HV20 looks toyish, it does however produce great looking video, if thats the look you like. The DVX looks sexy and produces video more related to the look of film. Go to a digital cinema and check out a flick then go watch the same film at a conventional cinema and see the difference. Our eyes tell us what we like. What has filmmaking gone to when you buy a camera by just how big and professional it looks? Having yet to use the HV20, will this weekend. I am going to put it in a side by side comparison to end this subject I hear in so many threads about this and I am really tired of people going from what the camera do and how they perform to how much mojo they have and how professional the look on the outside. I am not mad what soever, but I too am really curious. I will do a test with the DVX100b and the HV20 with and with out my new SgPro rev.3 and we will all see who comes out on top, I just wish some one would have done this before.

Hey mate, long time no see lol! I love the work work you do with the HV20, its a sweet looking picture in the right context. Definately if you are getting paid to film, then you'll want a cam such as the DVX. I'm not down on the HV20, its all small toy looking cams, even my 300. Although my next trip to the zoo i'll still take it cause lugging the DVX and pod around a public place like the zoo can get you into trouble with the people that run the show.Ha....hey Shaun how was your holidays?
That's a funny statement you made. I'd like to think I have some "mojo' with my 20...but...hey...
Now I've seen a lot of the stuff you made with your GS300,,,and I understand that much of it (or at least some of it) is televised. So, knowing that a cam like the HV20 has more to offer than the GS300 (besides resolution) I'm sure even you would be able to work some magic with the HV20.
I look at it this way...both the DVX and the HV20 are like tools. A DVX would be like an expensive craftsman flathead screwdriver while the HV20 is like a cheap back of the shelf K-Mart brand. Given an assignment both will get the job done though the more expensive screwdriver will feel better in your hands.
If the 'look" of the cam is just as important to you as the end product it puts out (especially for paying gigs) then the HV20, or "any" consumer cam is not the right choice.
