DVX100B noise problem?

Someone told me that the DVX100B has a lot more noise than the dvx100A, and the dvx100A has more noise than the dvx100. Is this at all true? He said his friend did a comparison, but I haven't seen anything actually.

Exact opposite my friend and whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about. The DVX100A has less noise than the DVX100 and the DVX100B has less noise than the DVX100A. Cameras get better with upgrades, not worse.

Well, DavidBeier, are you sure the DVX100A has less noise than the DVX100? As far as I can remember, one or some of the new gamma curves on the A are actually more noisy than the ones on the DVX100.

Am I totally wrong?

The cine-like-D gamma curve is noisier than the cine-like curve of the DVX100, but -- I mean, that was a newly-added feature, so you can't really say that it makes the camera noisier overall; I mean, you could always choose to not use it, and compare apples to apples (meaning, cine-like to cine-like). But overall the "B" has lower noise than its predecessors.

What he said. However, I believe the same settings end up being less noisy in the A (or at least that's what I was told since, to be totally honest, I've worked almost exclusivly with the DXV100A, only using the a few times when an A wasn't availible)

Besides the gamma curve, this guy is telling me that the color processor in the DVX100B has "noise issues"? The DVX100 and the DVX100A do not. He says they have different color chips? Is there any kind of comparison out there so I can see how much a difference there is?

This "guy" is he a video engineer or repair tech? Has he done tests? Cine-like D and V are more noisy than Cine-like. But noise can come from many sources like excessive chroma, gain, etc. So unless you run tests under the same conditions you could have more noise in one clip than another with the same camera depending on settings. exposure, lighting, let alone trying to compare models. Its dangeous to make a global statement with out the accurate tests.

Good shooting,

He said his friend did some test, and no he isn't a video engineer or repair tech, he goes to my high school.
