Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone here could lean me into the right direction as to going about this repair.

My dvx100b has a cracked LCD screen, rendering it useless at this point. I was wondering if it would be possible to simply buy a new entire LCD flip out and reattach through the ribbon cable to the camera body, or would I have to take it to a local camera repair place for repair estimates if this is not an accessible part to buy. If anyone has any input as to where I could look to find an LCD complete part for repair or is seeking a professional camera repair store my only option.

Thank You.

I am in the same predicament as you. I have a severe cracked LCD and when I was researching the cost of a replacement I was told $570 USD.
Thats alot for me to pay for this old cam so I'll be living with the EVF until I buy a DSLR. If you find out anything else please let us know.

You could purchase an external monitor and use it...it would also come in handy in future cameras you may buy. The other option would be to track down a broken DVX and buy it for parts....having said that, $570 doesn't seem like a whole lot to replace the LCD.

There r cheaper ways , you could buy a used laptop (with firewire obviously), then buy a pair of the best batteries for the laptop(via ebay , they r usually cheap) and capture directly to the hdd . You wont need tapes anymore and you will be able to see what you r recording with the best quality , also you wont lose time capturing your footage . The problem is the portabilty and size of the your new equipment ,try to find a 12" or smaller laptop .

Hello,
I had a damaged ribbon cable and had it repaired for under €200, my screen was not cracked like yours, but I believe its a very tricky job to do, not something you want to try yourself. Even the pros that did my one left one channell of the mic not working and I had to send it back again. I had been using an external monitor before I had it fixed but the only problem is you wont get your zebra pattern in this manner. Hope this helps
John
