So I don't know exactly how to describe this or what the technical term for it is but in movies when the background image is clear and easily see able and the foreground is blurry and then it switches to the background blurry and foreground clear. SO my question is how do you do that shot with the dvx100b cause i have seen videos where they have done it and yet I cant figure it out. Please Help!!!

rack focusing or achieving a shallow depth of field is going to be more difficult with ur dvx cuz its a video camera.

Anyway to help u achieve this firstly put ur camera on manual settings(focus and iris) then,u can use a more telephoto lens(zoom in more) and focus on ur subject. U will see ur background get a bit more blurry not as blurry as film cameras. then turn ur focus ring to focus on ur background. and u can switch between the 2 by turning the focus ring.

tips that can help u:
Open ur iris as much as u can without overexposing (u can use ur ND filter switch to cut down light in order to keep ur iris open or ur shutter speed.) The more u open ur iris the more shallow ur depth of field

telephoto lens

here's a short clip of some rack focusing with my 100b http://www.vimeo.com/2627145
I used the built in ND filter on some and higher shutter on some to keep my iris as open as i could

I'd suggest looking into some photograghy tutorials on youtube or doing a search on the forum on depth of field..actually the discussions on depth of feild on the forums may just confuse the heck outa u. But photograhy tutorials will help u out to get to know how apperature, shutter speed and the lens affect ur depth of field

edit: oh i forgot...distance between the foreground and the background will also help u.
