DVX100b & Focus Firestore

Hey everyone at DVXUser this is my first post and was just wondering is how the focus firestore works with the dvx100b? Like do you have to change the recording settings on the dvx100b or is it automatic? Also i know that the firestore has different settings for the frame rates. What are the best settings for those for each of the dvx100b frame rates?

thanks

I have the FS-4 ProHD, 80 GB, it's seamless all the way. Just set the external control option in DVX setup menu and you are good to go. The FS-4 menu system allows format options, etc. The manual is available online. Get extra batteries...

I like it and will never shoot tape again.

24p or 24pa with fs-4 (and which record mode)???

24p or 24pa with fs-4 (and which record mode)???

Just ordered an fs-4; it's on back order from B&H. I read the manual but I'm not clear which record mode you'd choose if you're recording 24pa with a dvx100b. Would you choose "AVI2 (default)," "24P AVI Type2," or perhaps "Quicktime 24P NTSC only?"

I know that when the dvx is recording on tape, it's in dv-standard interlaced video mode, using 2:3:3:2 pulldown (explaining why you can capture using any camcorder). Then, while capturing into a Premiere Pro 24p project, the split frame is discarded. So in 24pa, would you want to simulate a dv tape by choosing "AVI2 default?"

And, since the fs-4 seems to dismiss the need to record in dv-compliant mode and therefore 24pa mode, wouldn't it be wiser to shoot 24p normal and choose "24P AVI Type2," or "Quicktime 24P NTSC only?" And, if so, which? And, if the fs-4 does in fact remove the need to record in dv-standard interlaced video, why are the 24 record choices listed under dv?

I'd opt for an alternative battery idea... their batteries are expensive.

Is there something that could accomplish this without being bulky?

Also, regarding questions in my previous posts in this thread, I've since learned that the QT options are for FCP's benefit. However, if anyone has knowledge regarding recording 24P or 24PA on an FS-4 with a dvx100b, my ears are perked.

When you get the unit just experiment with the varied recording options in the Focus unit.
(you've got the manual - there's a list of the ones available)
Once you set it, you forget it.
*I have the 100B+FS4 you refer to.

I found the scene files I like most worked best with DV RAW.
In this way, whatever I'm recording in (regardless the scene file) will go down exactly like it was going to tape.

AND- believe you me, dropping files is SOOOO much BETTER than logging real time from tape!!

The thing about the battery is there are two available - I have both.
One is the standard unit and the other the 'extended' unit.
Both slip into the FS4 back slot and don't change the form factor. No worries.

It is a great setup. You'll like it a bunch.
Good Luck.

Just got the unit yesterday. No problem importing 24pa into a 24p ppro timeline by using avi type 2. However, I've got a very basic question to which I've been unable to find an answer: Other than sticking a tape in the dvx, how do I get the flashing red 'no tape' icon to disappear? I would have thought that the ext record setting would have accomplished that. Sorry if this has been covered but my searches were fruitless.

Jordan did you get an answer to this flashing red no tape icon. New DVX100B + FS100 user here. Confirm this is what I want: DVX100b set to external control Firestore set to quicktime + tapeless Thanks for your help...

Nope, never got an answer, even after posting the question on a thread in which Barry Green was participating. Just sold the unit two weeks ago, anyway. I don't know why you're using QT. Are you on a Mac? I always used AVI Type 2 with no problems.
