DVX100b Firewire PC

Hello all! I have been filming with my DVX100b for about 9 months now just collecting footage and now its time to start editing. Call me a noob but I've been looking at FireWire cables and I have no idea which one to get? (6to4pin/6to6pin etc..) I will be editing with CS3 premiere on my Dell PC. Thanks for the help!

DVX has a 4-pin port, so you have to determine what kind of firewire port your computer has. TYpically a windows laptop will have a 4-pin port, but a desktop could have either 4-pin or 6-pin.

soooooooo I'm not sure if my desktop even has a firewire connection.... Is that possible? There are just a bunch of USB ports. Or can it plug into those??

when I started, I didn't own a computer that had a firewire port so I just captured my footage at school because they had a Mac and dumped my footage onto my external hard drive and brought it back home.
you can do that:)

USB won't help. If you have an open slot, you could install a firewire port. If you do find or install one, and it happens to be 6-pin, be sure to insert that end of the firewire before the cam's 4-pin side. Better yet, turn off both devices before using the cable. I haven't fried a FW port but I've read stories...

actually there are devices that you can use...

i actually have the adstech device and used it to record straight to the pc without recording to tape. saved myself the process of capture/transferring from the camera to the pc. plus you can play back the recorded file full screen without wear and tear on the camera. plus no switching from record to vcr and back. just record and leave the camera set up.

now some may argue that the quality might be poorer, but i posted on here some comparisons and i personally feel the quality was better.

here's how i noticed the difference i had ran a test. i recorded a green screen shot and while shooting it looked great, but on playback from tape the edges were slightly smeared, but on direct recording to the pc the image was way better.

now note i wasn't using the composite i was using the s-video connection.

anyway with what you are doing you can playback from the camera and use these devices to record to your pc.
