DVX100b -> DVCPRO50 out???

Hi everyone.
I have only owned my DVX100b for a month now. I am happy with it but today whe I was out shooting with a Pro videographer a question came up.

The pro asked me if my the DVX can output DVCPRO50/25 video through the firewire to a Hard Disk. I know what DVCPRO is, and I told the pro that the DVX100 uses Mini-DV but I did not know the answers to the DVCPRO questions. The pro then said the DVX100b is a consumer level camera. Not wanting to get in any sort of fight with the pro I just said I check this out..So here I am asking.

I know that some people say that the DV out is 4:2:2 rather than the MiniDV 4:1:1, I have not tried ths yet so I don't know. I actually don't even know how to tell if a video was shot with 4:1:1 or 4:2:2 or what.

By the way, the Pro shot with a Sony FX1 and uses a Sony VX2100 for other work. I have no idea what output those have, but I know they shoot on Mini-dv.

Thanks for reading. I look forward to your answers.

the DVX does not shoot DVCPRO50, but dont worry your camera is way better than his...

Wait a minute, the "PRO" is asking you if you can output DVCPRO50 from your mini DV camera? I'm sorry but your "pro" friend should already know the answer to this, since he is shooting on two "consumer" level cameras as well.

:grin:hahahahaha:grin:

he says the DVX is a consumer level camera, yet he is using a VX2100!?

no offense, but your "pro" friend sounds quite ignorant to say something like that.

and yes, he should have already known the answers to his questions concerning things of that nature.

Thanks everyone. It is possible that the "Pro" who was shooting on "her" Sony FX1 may have mistken my DVX100b as a camera that shoots HD. Then again, she may have been ignorant. Not really worth dwelling over. I just wanted to know what sort of video comes out of the Firewire port and if it was DVCPRO50 or what.

I am not yet as interested to shoot HD or bother to convert SD to HD as of yet. The only market buying HD video wants real HD not HDV or anything that is converted. This may change once more channels go HD or have a HD sister channel. When my clients start asking for HD ill probably buy an HD cam, but I have not yet gotten a request.

Thanks.
