DVX100B Color Off ??

Using the DVX100B on Monday we noticed a serious difference in the Scene 1 default settings for a Red sweater that came up almost Orange.

The shot was an indoor under Tungsten Fresnels (Arri & Mole/Richardson) reflected off ceiling white with white & blue/purple back grounds.

Wondered if anyone had any suggestions how to get a more representative color? Never noticed this before but if the red's are off that much, wow, others might be off too and we'll have to start watching closer . . but first . . we need to find out what we SHOULD be doing ??

Hi Dr.D, well other could give a probably a better solution than this, and you have probably already tried this, but I would look at the color bars on the DVX and make sure the camera is representing the correct colors on the LCD, also did you white balance when shooting the reds, I have always have gotten great deep reds even on the default settings with my DVX, too back they are always blocky due to compression, but they have always been true deep red. thats my only advice.

Hi Jon,

We always balance using a White Card. The most interesting part of this equation is that . .

- the sweater was red as could be
- the LCD flip out viewer showed clearly orange
- the actual digitized image is in between the two

WoW - this will be hard to figure unless we come up with some idea why it looks that way and can thus compensate to fix. We're wondering if "reflective" light is responsible, being reflected off a medium aged white perferated ceiling?

Did the footage after that scene have the same effect, have you shot any red with that DVX after that shoot, If the the problem is localized in just the one scene than I would say It must be the reflective properties of the surroundings, but if the problem pursues to other scenes in different locations then I would be thinking a sensor malfunction.
