Hello all..
It's my first post.
I just got the dvx100b from B+H.

Anyone have a suggestion on which case to buy?
I am not sure if backpack-style works best for me.
(pros and cons?)
I am thinking more conventional style.

bags..

bags..

Hi
I have Lowepro vertex 200 (i think that's the number..)
orginally got it for photography but it is big enough to fit my dvx, mic, cables, batteries, tapes, etc etc + little bit of photography gear all in one bag.

I really like this bag for trasporting the equipments and also got a place for tripod as well

downside of this bag is, if you need to pull out your camera or other equipments it will take little bit of time to put the bag down and what not.

so this one is ideally for tranporting your equipments..

if you want versatility check out some shoulder bags from portabrace or other brands.

it really depends on what you wanna do..

over the years i have 4 different camera bags and I still need to grab one more haha but they have different purposes

1 sling bag for quick access and carrying small equipments
2 shoulder bags for carrying more equiments (one is an old one that i don't use)
1 backpack style for packing heat!!

(goto local camera/video store and check out the bags to see if its big enough and to check out functionality before you buy)

You can never go wrong with a smaller Pelican case. We have a few 1500 series ones, and they are PERFECT for a DVX, a mic, tapes, and a few other goodies. Get the padded dividers though insteaad of pull apart foam, because then you can add more accessories and change up the setup later.

I've got the pelican 1600. I also put my D200 in there and a large 80-200mm lense, Senn G2 gear, 3 extra batteries, charger, misc stuff like extra tripod plate, etc.

Thanks for the responses.

PerroneFord, Which model Portabrace to you have and what do you fit in it?
Yes, Portabrace and Pelican. I am leaning that way.
It would also carry my D80, lenses, batteries in the same guess, I am guessing.

I wonder which is easier to handle, more comfortable to carry.
I will check them out in person if possible.

The Pelican 1600 comes with pull handle and wheels. I carry it when the ground surface is textured, i.e. brick or gravel cement so the equipment doesn't get rattled, but the wheels work great and are pretty shock absorbent on generally smooth surfaces. It's also got a carry handle on the end as well as the front so it can be carried vertically or horizontally.

if you think the backpack style is the way to go, i would look at the kata hb-205. i own it and love it.

does anyone know of any goodback packs that would hold a DVX, i do a lot of skiing and filming so i need a good bag. i know dakine and burton make them, anyone have any thoughts?

would one of these work for a travel friendly (e.g., carry-on) case for the dvx, medium shotgun mic, ck93 mic, cables, batteries, a few tapes and accessories, and mac-book 15' laptop?

Da-kine and burton make some pretty confy and good backpacks for all terrains.
they are mainly design for snowboard filmmakers or surfers, but for sure they work in any other conditions.

I just purchased a Pelican 1510 with foam for my DVX100B. I'm going to see if I can fit most if not all my other stuff (batteries, shotgun mic, and wireless kit) in there as well. I'll post pictures when it arrives, if you'd like.

For those of you in Canada, the best deal I could find is Optimal Case and Lights (http://www.optimalcaseandlights.com) out of Calgary. (Tiger Direct is about the same price too, but I'm not sure how legit they are). Optimal also has free shipping for orders of $100 or more that are destined for Canada. Much better than the outrageous Vistek prices and you can avoid customs and duties when buying from the States.
