DVX100B Black Bars

Hello all!
Just found this website and what a knowledgable bunch of enthusiasts you seem to be.
I've been using a DVX100B PAL now for a year, strictly a noob, and as well as the dreaded s_lock thingy (which went away) I now get thick black bars dividing the picture horizontally. Yes, I have been mixing and reusing tapes (I had no idea until I read about it here), but the heads have only been used for about 30 hours or so.
I'm guessing it's one of the heads on the drum that's gone or could it be something else?

The local workshop is quoting silly money to replace the entire innards of the camera tape transport, can any kind soul offer any advice on what the problem is and what to do?

Does this happen on all tapes, or just the reused ones? Have you tried cleaning the heads with a cleaning tape?

Yes, it happens on all tapes, even new ones I'm afraid.
It's not visible when previewing the camera direct, but the bars are always there on playback.
Have tried a cleaning tape for 10 secs but no avail - so I'm guessing it's the heads by your question?
 
Yeah, it sounds like it unfortunately. You might just need a head realignment. With only 30 hours though it doesn't seem like you would need a new head, unless something damaged it.
 
Thanx! I've learned more about the DVX in a few days by reading this site than I have since I started using one a year ago.
