MSteve0000,
I have shot films using both 24p and 24pA and I have edited both on a 29.97 timeline (I use Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 and I do not have the option of removing pulldown and editing on a 23.97 timeline). The end result was then exported to DVD and viewed on a widescreen TV and projected on a big screen. Both did very well. Perhaps it is just my imagination, but I think the films shot on 24pA look just a tad better than the ones shot on 24p. I experienced no problems during editing either the 24p or the 24pA. I have examples of both on youtube. "13" was shot using 24p and "The Harmonica" was shot using 24pA. Both were edited on a 29.97 timeline and exported to MPEG2. 24p is primarily intended for editing on a 29.97 timeline while 24pA is intended for editing on a 23.97 timeline. However, that does not mean that using one or the other restricts you to one timeline or the other. By all means, though, if you have 23.97 editing capbility, use the 24pA and edit at 23.97. If, like me you are limited to a 29.97 timeline, you can actually use either 24p or 24pA at your descretion. I have been using 24pA simply because I hope to get Premiere Pro sometime in the future and want my stuff archived in 24pA for future editing. Also, as I said before, I think 24pA looks just a bit better, even when edited on 29.97.
