DVX100AE (pal) to 35mm cinema ad

Hi,

I recently have got a job to create a cinema ad and I somewhat feel a bit out of my league... so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have 2 x DVX100AE cameras to use. These are PAL versions so they have 25p. I do not have a conversion lens, but I am thinking of hiring one (or I could just crop... would that be a very bad idea? - although being PAL I do have a 20% advantage over NTSC).
In short, I need to create a 30 second ad which will then be transfered to 35mm film. I understand that it will need to be slowed down to 24 frames per second, but what this will entail from my side I am not too sure of yet. But pretty much, if anyone has any advise it would be greatly appreciated. From what settings to use on the camera, to how I should setup and capture in Final Cut so I get the highest quality possible (and how do I get the 1:1.85 aspect ratio happening), anything would be great :)

Thanks heaps,

Matt

matt, if you are in PAL land, maybe the ads are running in 25p in the cinema, too.
call the copyhouse what you should do.
even if the go to 24p i would expect them to take care of it while FAZing the frames. they have to expose every frame to film. you can deliver a harddrive with the clip as TGAs or even an uncompressed avi. again ask the copyhouse what they want.

hi, cinema in Australia is 24 actually so apparently it is quite a common problem for TVC going to cinema

Hi.

not to ignore your original question but what sort of budget are you working on?
I've just started work on a cinema ad as well. (In Britain)
Personally i wouldn't consider working on a DVX. Were shooting 35mm with full crew. If your unsure how to shoot surely you should be employing a DOP & editor who do...?
I'm not a pro cameraman but I'm fairly certain that mini DV on a big screen is going to look pretty poor regardless of shooting method & post production.
