dvx100ae not 24p ???

Hi,

Yesterday I bought a used dvx100ae for an attractive price. I have read hundreds if not thousands of things about this camera for a year and really wanted to throw myself into independent filmmaking.

Then as I had it yesterday I could only find settings for 25p. And reading some fora today hints at the e version is only 25p but the a version is 24p.

How could I miss this information!?!?! :'-(

The reason I wanted this camera was because of 24p. I want to create something that can be transferred and blown up on cinema 35mm easily.

Am I completely ****ed? Excuse my language... but I am very upset right now.

Best regards,

LLD

wait, there is only an option for 25p? which means it also shoots 50i, which means you have the european broadcast standard....the "Pal" version. If you wanted 24p, you wanted the american broadcast standard....."NTSC" which shoots 24p, and 60i.

As far as I can tell, you have the wrong formated camera...sorry to tell you

Really? Gosh I am on such an incredible tight budget this year and I just wasted that much money!?!
I did think that the PAL also allowed 24p...? I thought I have read that in countless of fora..

But maybe there is both a PAL 24p and 25p?

Who in the world need 25p?? I mean if you want smoother video you would with 30p and if it is filmmaking you go with 24p, no?

** crashing my head loudly in the desk at my job **

Im not sure the technical reasons for why Pal shoots on 25p and 50i, and NTSC shoots in 24p and 60i, but I know that those are the differences in the models. o basically anything you film, edit, and print to most any media will not play correctly on US media players(NTSC) - Im not sure, but their maybe some way to convert Pal to NTSC, but you someone with alot more knowledge on this subject will have to help you out, Ive done all I can,

Sorry about your cam

Just found that link. Probably read that a year ago and thats why I decided in my brain I needed PAL and forgot the reason for it later...

It appears it might not be such a bad deal anyways. The film house making the 35mm film here in Copenhagen, Denmark or anywhere in Europe might prefer 25p - dont need to drop any frames but just adjust the sound 4%.

I think I will just go with this one for now and use it to learn.

Still can't get over the fact that Wim Wenders used a DVX100 for LAND OF PLENTY.

Thanks for replies!

bye

Be glad you got the Pal DVX. The "magic" number 24 isn't important. To be able to shot progressive is the important factor now. And you got a better resolution on your footage. You have 720x576 and not 720x480. Did you know that most of the lowbudget films (cinema) was made with Pal interlaced or progressive camcorders, and transfered to film frame by frame? I guess you are an indy filmmaker and want filmtransfer... than just be glad you have a Pal camcorder.

didnt know that Sergej, kinda makes me want a PAL version........but I got my good ole NTSC 100A, an I love it even though it has less res.

You are from Denmark? Than you are in Pal land. You couldn't get a better deal than this Pal camcorder. In your land filmmakers use most of the time film as I know. And guess what... for tv they use 25fps.
