DVX100AE in UK (update)

Just managed to speak to Optex in London and they are yet to be informed by Panasonic as to when the AE will be available in the UK (price also), but it looks like it might be £2500 (sterling) and unavailable until April or May...

I'd like to get one sooner than this, but am a little worried about buying one from as far away as Singapore... I imagine that I'd then have to pay import duty into the UK, and there would be issues with warranties etc also -- does anyone have any experience of this, or thoughts or suggestions?

Re: DVX100AE in UK (update)

You can buy it now from http://www.videoactionpro.com

They are a UK-based retailer who will flog you the DVX100AE for £2,805 - that's including VAT, 2-year UK warranty and it'll arrive on your door tomorrow!

Kind Regards,

Andy J.

Don;t ever buy from Video Action Pro.

they are a bunch of Rip Off merchants. They claim rhw stock is UK stock bought from Panasonic but this is a complete lie.

I have spoken to Panasonic aqbout them and they toldme not to trust them.

Take Care.

Re: DVX100AE in UK (update)

I've spoken to Video Action Pro a few times on the phone, each time they gave the impression they'd tell me anything if it meant they'd get a sale from me. When I mention that I'm only looking to purchase, they get all snappy and cut me off as soon as possible. Bad customer service, have been totally put-off buying from them.

I'm going to get my DVX from Creative Video (CVP), who I believe are official Panasonic dealers and are also very proffesional when I've spoken to them on the phone. Bit pricey atm, but did someone mention UK price cuts? 8)

Re: DVX100AE in UK (update)

I bought my DVX100a from a dealer in Edinburgh, iFrame Media. The guy there is an ex Panasonic Broadcast guy and knows what he is talking about.

I bought mine for £2650 plus Vat plus carriage. The service I got was fantastic and I am over the moon with the camera.

You can get them on 0131 663 6677. They do have a website but has changed in the last couple of days for updating.

Hope this helps

Dave

Re: DVX100AE in UK (update)

Well, looking at the difference of opinion here, it seems like I was wrong - sorry!

All I know is I brought my DVX100AE from videoactionpro and it came the next day and has a full two-year warranty. And it did appear to be genuine UK stock, from what I can gather (according to the paperwork in the box, that seemed to be sealed at the factory...). You're right about their telephone manner though, a right bunch of miserable g*ts!!

Just my two-penny worth. Probably best to ignore my experience though, it seems like everyone else had a harder time of it. Have any of you actually BOUGHT anything from them, or did the way they come across just put you off? (Which is perfectly reasonable, if you ask me.)

Re: DVX100AE in UK (update)

video Action pro cancelled my whole order one time when I enquired as to when my part was going to arrive, they lft me in the lurch with one of my customers who was expecting me to complete a video for him. iFrame Media in Scotland saved my ass by giving me a loan of kit for the day.

iFrame Media also told me that Video Action Pro do not buy their kit from Panasonic in the UK and they even gave me a contact name in Panasonic to confirm what they were saying. So if you have bought from video action pro, the chances are that the camera you thought was a UK product is not. I don't know how the garuntee from Panasonic covers it. I know that they won't be happy to repair a gray improted camera.

Global Media Pro on the other hand import their kit from New Zealand I think but be carefull with the price list on their site as I don't they mention about the imort duty and vat that will be added on to the price when it comes into the UK and the warranty is not a Panasonic warranty.

Hope this helps anyone thinking od buying a new camera. What I will say is when I bought my DVX100AE I got a Panasonic Mic and camera bag supplied free of chatge with my camera.

Re: DVX100AE in UK (update)

I hear what your saying, Dave. I just seem to have been one of the lucky ones. My cam is def. genuine UK stock - the difference is, Video Action Pro buy them from a secondary supplier rather than from Panasonic direct.

That doesn't affect your warranty, it's like buying a camera from Panasonic, then without opening the box, selling it to your mate for £10 more, who, without opening the box, sells it to another mate for say another £10.

Or to put it another way, imagine you're a shop and you sell a DVX100 to a customer that you brought from, say, Optex in London. They got it from Panasonic, so you techically didn't get it from Panasonic directly, but it's still the same product, same guarantee, same warranty, etc.

Make sense?

Re: DVX100AE in UK (update)

I got my DVX100AE today!! *bounce* I'm now officially a DVX user, and not a DVX browser like I was before. ;D

Anyhoo, I got mine from CVP (Creative Video), who were very friendly and professional. Alltogether, was about £3,000 with the panny soft case, spare batteries and tapes. I'd fully recommend their service for anyone buying in the UK.

That is all. [n0signal]

Cheers man! :D

First impressions are... that it's really small! I even had a two hour hands-on demo before I bought it, but the more I handle it, the smaller and smaller it seems to be.

I need to get back to my job, where I sell consumer cams, to make the DVX seem more significant again!!

Second impressions is... great cam!! Nice picture, altho perhaps wasted on my television set; interlacing just doesn't do it justice. So far I've noticed none of those "flickering" issues, and I've been whip panning all over the place to test it. Fine so far. *touch wood*
