I have a Gl2 and I am thinking about selling it for a DVX. I've done my research about it and I am pretty sure I am goin to purchase it but I have a question that may be tough to answer....maybe not. I was wondering if anyone has used both a GL2 and a DVX, and if you have, which one has better 30fps picture quality. I know the 24p is much better than the Gl's frame mode. I am wondering about normal 30fps. Also, how is the 60i in your opinion. How does it compare in terms of quality. thanks

the dvx has everything a gl2 does and more. The only thing the gl2 has is the ability to take higher quality still images, it dosnt even have 30p it only has 29.97p

Straight from b&H

Frame Movie Mode
This mode captures video in a unique non-interlaced method allowing the camcorder to record 30 frames of video per second. Similar to a motor drive on a 35mm camera, Frame Movie Mode performs like a Digital Motor Drive. You'll capture every gesture and expression of your subject with spectacular clarity. It's perfect for users who choose to grab high quality still images from video for making prints, video for website content, or even sending emotionally charged images over the internet. The non-interlaced method has even been acknowledged by users for its cinematic-like appearance.

its still 29.97 not 30p, but its proggressive.

I think its basically an in camera field blend? still not true progressive or they would have marketed it as 30p instead of frame movie mode. as Horse said the DVX is a huge step up from the GL2 :)

I'll pitch in here, GET THE FREAKING DVX RIGHT NOW!!!

Look, I bought the GL1 a few months before the GL2 came out, retailer didn't tell me about it, then the DVX came out, then the XL2, then the FX1, then the HD100U, then the HVX. I've been through it all buddy and all I've got to say is that if you want a new camera, but can't afford one of the newer HD ones, then the DVX is the best bet for ya. Frame Mode is still loved to this day, but the 30p mode on the newer cameras is ultimately more useful for almost anything now.

Hope that helps. An XL2 is also an option, but I don't know your feelings on that. But seriously, the DVX will be such a gigantic leap in comparison, especially if you go for the B-version.

Now that I think about it though, have you given any thought to a Sony FX1 or A1U? Both have great 30p modes, well, they're Cineframe, but they're very nice anyway. An A1U can be had for $2,000 at B&H at the moment thanks to the $500 rebate and it should look the same and with the image controls of the Z1U, unless I'm mistaken.

It's not progressive. It's still got better resolution than deinterlacing in post, but not hugely.

Having used both, I'd say dvx (duh) but the gl2 is less noisy, I will admit.
