Re: DVX100a used for live action here

That was pretty cool. I like. I assume the LIVE ACTION was the man climbing. :P

Re: DVX100a used for live action here

Sweet! Was that After Effects with 3D layers? I loved it...greenscreening or luma keying?

Re: DVX100a used for live action here

Wow, I just checked out your demo reel....pretty sick stuff. What software do you use?

Also, how'd you pull off the guy spinning around matrix-type stuff?

Re: DVX100a used for live action here

Very, very cool. My money is on After Effects.

Re: DVX100a used for live action here

Wow that demo reel is amazing. I have never seen anything quite that impressive.

Re: DVX100a used for live action here

ok ted, you don't get enough showing off on the creative cow AE forums? ;)
Just teasing, i love your work; always execellent quality, and very creative.

Re: DVX100a used for live action here

Uh oh, I've been recognized. I'm not trying to show off... well, maybe I am. :-/

I just wanted to show what the DVX could do! It's a great cam.

Yes, I use after effects religiously. Everything I do is with AE and FCP 4.

The footage in the spot was green screen, keyed with keylight, and then composited in. All the other layers were pretty much solids masked out to make a shape. The mountains were all moved to give it the perspective of going higher. Add some lighting effects, and done! Easy. Well, not so much. Been workin' on this for quite awhile.

The dude in the reel was also shot on green screen. He stood in one position and was rotated on a rotating base. Wasn't to hard.

Anyway, thanks.

Nah, it's fine to show yourself off a litle if the quality of your footage justifies it. The rotating base idea is pretty cool; I'm going to have to try that myself...what exactly did you use that's big enough for a person to stand on but small enough to fit in front of a greenscreen?

Re: DVX100a used for live action here

Policar,

What we did is we got one of those trashcan bases with wheels on it, and one of those pipes with the base at one end that can be screwed down. We took a thick board of wood and screwed the pipe base to that so that the pipe is then perpendicular to the wood. We then drilled a hole the size of the pipe in to the trashcan base, right in the center. The pipe was like 2" diameter, so we had to get one of those circular drill bits. Once the hole is drilled we just placed it on the board with the pipe going through it. The trash can base rotates around that perfectly. We also took another piece of wood and screwed it to the top of the trash can base to create more area to stand on. We had to drill a hole in that also.

To turn it, we attached some rope to the side of the trashcan base, and just wrapped it around. back away, hit record, and start pulling really slowly.

It was guerilla, but it worked.

Re: DVX100a used for live action here

..too much work ;) why not just buy a rotating tv table..swivel base or whatever..what are they called again?... i cant think of the word. but its just a board that rotates on a bearing base with another board on top.. they make them big enough for big tvs, and ive stood on them before.. or you could just take the back off an office chair, and put a bigger board over the seat part or somthing..
