I'm the old man... FoRtY last September.

I sure don't feel it. It's only when stopping to reflect that it even sinks in.

In my mind, I'm young and dumb and that's the way I like it. ;)

Re: DVX100a so much better than XL1s

Three years ago, when I was searching for a video camera I was first looking at the XL1. I started doing research on the Web, and eventually bought a Sony VX2000. (No DVX100 yet at that time.) One quote I remember seeing about the XL1 went something like:

"the XL1 is the camera most likely to be overrated by people who don't know what they're talking about."

Maybe that'll shut the kid up.

Re: DVX100a so much better than XL1s

the thing to remember is that everyone has different needs and the fact that some people feel they need a big one sticking out the front (lens) shouldn't make us think any less of them.

Re: DVX100a so much better than XL1s

I do have the occasional conversation which runs like this:

The XL-1 can take interchangeable lenses!!!

Yeah? Which ones do you use?

Well . . .

Re: DVX100a so much better than XL1s

So true David...that's one thing that I've always wondered...if you *had* all the money for the thousands of dollars spent on the lenses that the XL1 can use...then why is it you're shooting in DV, mind you not even truly progressive DV.

I've heard that certain lenses can go upwards of 10 grand..."Yeah, and we get to use FRAME MODE too!"

Re: DVX100a so much better than XL1s

LOL, that is so true...why buy lenses that cost more than the shitty camera anyway? Ooo..so people can be all in your face like "Nice Lense...shity camera..biatch"

Wonder whatever happened to Dima the kid that started this post.I have seen some other posts from him around dvxuser...Update us and let us know the outcome of this situation!! Did you kick his ass? :D

Re: DVX100a so much better than XL1s

Hi guys, I really appreciate your help! a lot! On Friday, I showed this post to that jerk, it was so funny to see the look on his face, because he actually have read every post on here, for some posts he said that these people know nothing about cameras, haha, I just laughed in his face. Man, he is such a jerk, In his face, I told him that xl1s is a piece of **** camera, no one needs these days, because it produces no better video than just a regular Gl1 or low end SONY 3ccd cameras, I told him to show me some special things that are so good about XL1s, he paused for a second, to think... (because there are none, haha) well, first thing he said is that you can change lenses, and I told him that you will never have to do that, because you are just to dumb to see the difference, and then he said that you can deinterlace video on it, yah but it still looks like ****! like a cheesy home movie! Anyway, it felt so good to prove that guy wrong! thank a lot to everyone here! you are a great group of people! : ) I am going to shoot a short this summer on my DVX, I have wrote a great story, and I think it will be a big hit! I want to premiere the movie in some auditorium or etc. so I will let you guys know, when it will come out.

Again, thanks a lot everyone!

Ya know, it's funny. Becasue my friend who is a photography major has the same arguments, except it's Nikon vs. Canon.

Nikon wins.;)

Re: DVX100a so much better than XL1s

As a Swiss citizen I have never attended high school, the place that stars in so many US films. So high school is cool, but 'Bezirksschule', the school I attended isn't. But at least Sylvester Stallone went to a private Swiss school. :)

About the DVX/XL1/S: I also wanted to buy a XLS, I almost made the payment with Western Union for an Ebay camera, but then the women at the post office told me, that there is a great risk, so I didn't make the deal. After it I realised that it would have been quite save, as there was an agent taking care of the money for security reasons, but at this time I already went after the DVX. First I bought one at Amazon.com from a private dealer, spent over 1500 Dollars on it ('new' DVX100_non_A_), and almost lost my money, because the dealer was a bamboozler, so I had to contact my credit card company to refund my credit card. I got my money back and finally bought a DVX100_A_ from a real dealer in Burbank, STUDIO EXCHANGE. I paid about 4300 Dollars, including shipping, tax/customs duty for almost 1000 Dollars. It' was expensive, but it's the real thing with 24P, 16:9 Squeeze Mode and Cine Gamma.

About the interchangeable lenses: They are great if you really need them, but the problem is, you don't really need them. I know it from digital photography, I never owned one with interchangeable lenses, it would just be to clunky and way to expensive. The DVX has some kind of wide lens and a ten times zoom, that's a most you'll need.
