Well, after deciding to buy the DXV 100a 2 weeks ago, It got ripped off out of my apartment 2 days ago, along with some other stuff. So I'm just posting the serial # on the site with the hopes that sombody might have heard somthing (my hopes are dwindling) The bummer part is, I was only a few days away from insuring it. If anybody comes across somthing, could you please let me know.

serial #B4TD00461

Thank you

Steve

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

Man, sorry to hear that!

If you have Renter's Insurance, it might cover the theft. I think for most homeowners it would be covered, so maybe if you have a renter's insurance policy?

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

I'll certainly keep my eyes open man! B4TD00461 it's in my Palm Pilot!

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

That is ****ed up. Thieves, Liars and Cheaters; the worst of the lot.

Damn. Gotta have that insured and definatley 'hidden' away when not in use. :-/

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

It sucks Guys. Unfortunitly, no insurance. But thanks for the kind messages and keeping your eyes out.

Thanks

Keep an Eye on Ebay to see if your camera pops up there.. you never know.

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

Hey Jarred, sorry to here that. I think that's probably a lot worse then any piece of gear in my opinion.

Man I just got ripped off too...They got my car stereo, like 100 cds many of which are very rare and my bogen 3066. Man, I almost got lazy and left my dvx in there...I'm such a dumbass for leaving that **** there. How many times is it going to take for me to learn...

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

Took me a minute or two to work out what was going on here, in the UK being "ripped off" means that you paid too much for something. :-/ Anyway, this is terrible, I REALLY DETEST people who steal anything *sigh* I need to get my cam insured. I've not taken it anywhere or done anything with it since I bought it about a month ago, because I just know that some BASTARD will steal it as soon as I take it out!! What sucks about the DVX is that if it gets stolen, your replacement cam won't have your personal scene file settings... back to square one.

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

Get your camera insured! I only pay 45 bucks a year for international traveling insurance..!

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

Steve,

Law Enforcement background here. I think it is mysterious that it happened 2 weeks after your purchase. I contend it is someone you know. someone who is an acquaintance or a friend. Someone you showed it to a day or a week before....

When Homicide detectives investigate a murder they go for all of the family and acquaintances of the deceased as suspects.

Same with theft. More than likely 9 times out of 10 it is someone you know.

I have had someone break into my home. and steal my belongings. funny thing was it was the only thing he took and I showed it to him a week or so before. I went to him and told him I knew he took my item and that he needed to return it. He hem and hawed and after I threatening violence he relented and returned my item. Whats your gut instinct?? Go after them.. You might loose a friend.. you might gain one back ;)

Hi,
I am sorry to hear that happened to you. Another poster had some good advice (sounds like someone you know).
I don't know if this is any consilation, but posting what happend to you has made me realize the importance of some sort of Insurance. Perhaps in posting this you have helped a few struggling filmakers avoid this happening to them.

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

Again, thanks to all for your input. I'm glad everyone has learned somthing from my unfortunit mishap. As far as who took it, thats still in the air. Many have said it's someone I know, but the people I do know are very close friends in the biz. The hook in all of this thing is that someone had a key because there was no forced entry involved. Not only that, the person across the hall was robbed with no signs of forced entry either .. and they took camera stuff too. There are no connections to friends I know who would have access to both apartments. I have my suspicions about my landloard but no evedence. Since the incident, all locks have been changed and other security means have been taken.

I would like to know if anyone knows where I could get a good insurence policy when I'm out on location. That would suck if It got lifted off the street or somthing.

Thanks

Steve

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

I just bought mine last week last week man. I had a guitar ripped of once so I know how you feel. Here in Detroit, people DIE for less than a camera. They better stay the **** away from this one . . .

Re: DVX100A ripped off!

Keep an eye on Ebay and ask for serial numbers. Look at local pawn shops too. I bet the theif will try and sell it.
