dvx100a problem: now that clunk sound won't go away

I'm so afraid.

Normally I start the dvx up, she's a beast and she squeels at me a bit--sounds like the machinery inside of the thing is getting all ready and such. then the sound goes away.

Now the sound won't stop and it sounds terrible, worse than before. I can feel a vibration that is coming from inside the camera (it sounds as if something in there is stuck or caught).

The camera is wonderfully functional but I can't record anything because of the awful sound that it makes. The zoom works, the tapes work, the record works, the viewing works.

I'm sooooo nervous. I have a shoot coming up in a month and this is a terrible problem.

I have opened the camera up from the lens and taken off the zoom ring and focus rings--I know the problem is coming from inside the camera.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Also, I'm in Seattle Washington and I know there are a lot of DVX users here so PLEASE, if you're local and you know about DVX mechanics, please let me know--if you fix my camera I will buy you dinner.

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, that 'clunk' sound is the gyro inside the camera, which is a 'normal' sound, not to be messed with. You seem pretty brave, taking it apart like that. If it's new, take it back or in for service. I just had a panic attack after cleaning the heads. It acted up after that but is OK now (X)

No dude, that sound is not normal.

I've used the camera for hours. That sound is terrible.

I'm worried.

There's nothing you can do by yourself other than damaging the camera further. Take it to a service centre, it looks like the OIS is wrong.
