Hello There

First time posting in this forum. I'm Damien from Singapore. I have been using a rented DVX100 since Nov for a Drama Pilot ( I've done a trailer in mpg format (2meg), if you guys wanna watch it I will gladly post it here ).

Just placed an order for a DVX100A PAL. It Cost about US$3,400 and comes with a free Pelican hard-case, a pana AG-MC100G microphone and 10 Pana Mini DV tapes.

Need Advise

1. Can you guys kindly suggest a reasonable price mattebox with plates & rods for the DVX.

2. I'm also ordering the Vinten Pro5 tripod for the DVX. Is it a good choice ( The head is 75mm, can anyone suggest a reasonable priced 75mm to 100mm ball adapter so that i can use it with my dolly and hi-hats. )

3. Do I need to buy a focus ring for the DVX?

4. The DVX has three 16:9 wide mode, as such do I need the Anamorphic Lens?

Thanks in advance for your advises.

Re: DVX100A PAL and any suggestion for accessories

Bought my DVX in Singapore, PAL Version.

Could anyone advise me on my questions. I was suggested to buy the Century Precision mattebox. Is it good in comparison to the other mattebox from cavision, formatt, chroziel?

Re: DVX100A PAL and any suggestion for accessories

If you are shooting with the Panasonic anamorphic adapter Chroziel has the only set-up for that. If you are going to film out that is the way to go.About $1400.00 for the matte box and rails plus the $700.00 lens plus another $200.00 to modify the lens. 8)

We use the Arri 6x6 mattebox when we use the ana adapter, I have seen them on ebay for around $1000, good considering that the retail price is about $6000 for everything you need.

You don't *need* to. But it would probably help...I don't use one myself, but that's because I'm a poor bastard, not because I don't want one.

4. The DVX has three 16:9 wide mode, as such do I need the Anamorphic Lens?
Again, you don't *need* the lens, but it'll give you the anamorphic lens artifacts, and give you a boost in resolution.

You won't have crappy images without it, though. Remember:most 35mm motion pictures are shot without anamorphics, they just compose for widescreen, and matte the projection in theatres. So the "look" of the footage is still cropped spherical footage, there's just a slight loss in resolution. In an NTSC world, it's not that bad (and the setbacks of focusing and such with the anamorphic adaptor may even result in lower quality footage, depending on how much time you have for your setups.)

I compose everything in widescreen, but shoot in 4x3, it still looks great!
