I’m going to be directing a low-budget indie short.
My dp has a Sony Z1U. I have a DVX100A, and I’m trying to figure out which camera would be better to use. I’m leaning toward the DVX, a camera that I know and absolutely love. I’ve done a few experimental shorts with it. This is my first narrative film.
My understanding from my research (including info found on this site) is that, since the Sony records in 60i, not 24p, the Sony would give more of a “reality-tv” look, while the DVX will have more of a “film-look.” I also understand that the Sony records compressed audio when shooting in HD so I would get better sound using the DVX. Also, that the Sony needs more light.
Do I have this right? Are there other factors to consider?
This is an all-indoors shoot in a one-bedroom apartment. I’ll be editing it on a MacPro with FCP 7, two 2.26 GHz processors and 8 GB RAM.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. (I hope I’m not asking a question that’s been answered a hundred times. I don’t think so.)
(BTW, I was a member here a few years ago, but it must have lapsed from lack of use. Good to be back.)
Thanks.
