I was shooting snowboarding with my DVX100B and I had to put it away because of copyright issues so I "took pictures" on my Canon T1i which has video capabilities. The only issue was that since I didn't have my tripod and that it's so light, the footage was extremely shaky at 70mm. The video quality is fairly nice, and is similar to other HDSLR's... A little sharp I think, but I haven't seen much GH1 footage before. I would highly recommend a HMC40 instead though because it isn't much more price wise and it has more control over the image and manual controls on the camera, plus it takes 10MP stills which look fantastic. If you can afford it though, I'd also try at an HMC150 or even a HVX if you can find a good deal...

well generally an hdslr isnt something u;d want to get if ur shooting events like u described, because of the nature of the cameras. but the gh1 would be better than say a 7d in ur case cuz no overheating issues and no limited time capailities per clip. However u still have to contend with recording separate audio (which in ur case maybe a hassle)...and also u have to purchase some sort of stabilizer with those dslrs to get any kind of usable footage. interchangable lenses are a nice thought but not really for event shooting. so u have to factor in a fast zoom less that stays fast throughout the zoom. these things can add up quickly and before u know it u've almost doubled the cost of the camera.

An hmc150 would probably be a better choice for you. its basically an hd dvx and shoots to SD cards.

thanks guys

I look to the hmc150 but for now i don't have all the money so maybe I will wait at the and of the winter

Yo Soucy, this is Rob P from the snowskating community, I shoot snowksating all the time with my GH1 without any problem, snowboarding is a diffrent game tho, make sure you bring a tripod if you wanna do long lens shots.

I have some footy I could show you if you wanna see some.
