Let's start simple. Have you rebooted? Have you installed or uninstalled any software between the time that it worked and now?

rebooted .. yes
installed new software .. yes ( its been almost 6 months I captured last time )
different fire wire cables ... yes .. ( 3 of them .. :( )
im still clueless :(
and right now its pretty impossible to reinstall windows......

Can you reset your OS back to 3 months ago to when you last had a good working system? Use the restore function... I would try that before reinstalling the OS.

You know what, reformatting your computer shouldn't be a pain at all. If it is then that just means you dont plan very well. So for now on you should plan that within the next 6 months you will have to reformat your computer, not only for it crashing through time but a clean install of everything refreshes it totally and you have a new fast computer experience again.

All you need to do is make sure you have 1 hard drive set for your master and set with your Operating System and all software you install. You shouldn't click SAVE on any programs and save anything period to the C:\ or whatever drive you set as your local hard disk.

Now when you want to save information, data or whatever, you just save it to other hard drives as well as making sure each week you backup to those hard drives these things :
Internet Bookmarks
Buddy Lists or conversations you save
Email program files for backing up email like outlook (express), thunderbird or whatever
And really whatever other settings your computer saves to the main hard drive that you know of. Like I make sure everything from my Photoshop Presets directory is backed up as I change those files.

Then you should have a directory on another hardrive set with the installations of every program that you use on a regular basis as well as every driver / font / change and addition to your computer that you are going to install as well on a fresh install.

So all you need to do is pop in the windows xp cd and reboot to reformat and install windows and once you are in windows you just have to go from folder to folder installing al your stuff and drivers and fonts and preferences and data needed to get your computer to the way it was.

The end.

That shouldn't take no longer than 3 hours max. If if does, your just not trying. Let me know if you have any more questions on doing this.

Just stay with SP1 vs SP2...A lot less headaches.

If you want to avoid Windows security issue, go on SP2. And if you want to install Pro HD 5.x, the software require SP2 installed (like previously said).
