Howdy All,

I just finished my music video submission for the Epic Modest Mouse Music Video Competition. It's called 'Cream & Coffee'.

We shot our vid in two days and did post for a week, cutting, grading and chroma keying. The performance footage was shot at 60p in HDV, by someone at Apple who's hosting the competition. Cutting and grading was done in Final Cut, using the RGB tool and CC 3-Way, with a touch of Nattress. The Key work was done in Shake and AE.

It can be viewed here, ON THE APPLE SITE at http://edcommunity.apple.com/epic/item.php?itemID=91 Just click the thumbnail and then your QT player will open, it may take a moment to load. As it loads, the QT player will resemble the QT interface when playing an audio file, but after a minute or two, it will open up to play the video file like an HD trailer from apple.com/trailers

DVX100a x2, one for reg speed, the other for slow-mo/high-speed. Reg speed was at 23.98, slow-mo was 60i, high-shutter and then de-interlaced and field-doubled using JES Deinterlacer.

Thanks so much,

RK

The film burns seem waaay to intentional to me. Maybe it's because the way you either shot the storyline or lack of DOF. I'm not sure. Just my initial thought.

thanks. my initial intent was to use them for efx only, but then they did seem forced. so i decided to use them as a way to direct focus/attention. any shots with out film clutter should pop out, as your brain will automatically detect a clean image, and stand out as being very important poignant moments.

when the lead starts to sing he wonders of for a second and looks to his camera right..i also notices few other shots where u cut just asthe singer was turning his eyes to look at you or some other crew member... .distracting and amateurish..lol..sorry man...

thanks. but i am confused, are you referring to the cutting of the band footage, or the performance itself. if you are referring to the performance itself, i had nothing to do with it, as it was shot by Apple. but i did cut it. and yes he does look on and off camera quite constantly and i don't like it either.

also, this was my first venture into MVs, perhaps i approached it too much like a short

Queen's Park! I live right near there (Victoria Campus - University of Toronto) wicked place to film unless you get permission (they ask 3 grand, even from their own students!)

U got brand logos all over the place so even though the brands won't mind getting free publicity places that charge money for publicity (such as TV networs) will and would force you to blur out the Nikon, the Nicorete, etc...
