DVX100a lost ability to Focus

Was in the middle of a major shoot. Spent 3/4 day covering the lead-up, then as the one-time-only, never-to-be-repeated event was about to happen, my main camera went down - litterally 5 seconds before the event took place. In a mad rush I swapped out two of my other cameras, but major chaos to say the least. What had happened - I was shooting normally, when suddenly (after turning off between takes, then turning back on) my dvx was unable to focus. It seemed locked in "Macro" mode. Auto fucos, manual focus, changed all settings, turned on/off, nothing worked. It could still record audio, but no focused image. And you know the infamous "rattle sound". Well, this same source of rattle sound now made a loud "knock" every time I turned on the camera. Freaked me out. Then, this morning, I turned it on and all was fine. WTF??!!!! I brought it in for servicing and await a respons, for even if it works now, can't afford for that to happen again. Obviously seems like something disengaged in the lens. Any ideas on what's up? Anybody encounter this?

Best,
Dale

I've had the same thing happen to my cam. I was able to change focus, but not anywhere near where it should be. I could get focus at a few inches from the lens when zoomed in to a specific percent, but nowhere else, and it went all mega blurry as soon as I zoomed out. It was like I had a very bad back focus problem. The camera also made that sound you are talking about. Because of the weird sound I was 100% sure it was either a mechanical or optical problem. Something was not in the right position, but it turned out to be just software related. A push on the reset button made it go away and the camera then worked with no problems. Scary stuff though...

Thanks for the info Johan. It's good to know that the reset could help it. Wish I knew that on the day. Brought the camera in for service and they couldn't find anything wrong (the camera corrected itself the next day before I brought it in). Sure, I still have to pay for the service charge, but my main concern is if it should happen again in the field. Good to hear of a potential solution. Appreciate it.

Had the same problem too, and I noticed it happens when the camera gets shaken or jostled. That makes me think its mechanical. It was solved by turning the camera off, waiting a few and turning it back on. thank god......
