dvx100a lcd screen vs. viewfinder

alright so i have a dvx100a and have a question concerning the lcd screen

when i am out filming, i set my exposure looking through the viewfinder because there is no outside light hitting it, the image looks alright, however when i open up my lcd screen the colors are much brighter and vibrant, the image looks very nice.
i havent captured many clips yet but the ones i did look more like the viewfinder image (bland, less saturated), also i dont have the proper cables to hook it up to my tv to see what it looks like on there

which is more of the true look, the view finder or lcd?
also is there a way to change the lcd brightness or color level..
am i doing something wrong..

thanks.

Actually, neither the viewfinder nor the LCD screen represent the "true" look of what is being recorded. They offer a close approximation but the the best way to actually see what the camera is recording is to set up an external, color adjusted monitor. I don't know how accurate it is but I have used a portable 13" color TV as a monitor and it seemed to work OK.

yeah i realize this thats why i said more of a true look

but yeah i guess thats the best bet, i need to get ahold of some cables

anyone else see much better colors and exposure through their lcd v vf or vise versa?

The zebras tell you when someting is overexposed, regardless of the color. If someting in the frame has the zebra stripes on it, the it is overexposed and you need to close the iris until the stripes go away. I like the 80% zebra, myself.
