DVX100A Field issues in 24P??? Help!

Hello,

I just got my DVX100A. I had a DVX100 before. I just shot some footage in the 24P mode with Thick Detail and after capturing it I am noticing field issues??? Weird. It shoudl be progressive right?

I never saw this with my other camera. It is almost as if the pulldown is having problems. the first few frames are fine (progressive), then a coupel of frames with serious edge tearing come up then three that are fine etc...

They have the whole combed field order type problem you sometimes get from rendering a clip in the wrong field order. Has anyone else seen this? What should I do. I need this footage for an edited piece due later this week. HELP!!! Is my camera a lemon? User Error??

ethan.. you need to read the manual, or perhaps visit adam wilts site to read about how the camera works. the only way your going to get all progressive frames is if you shot 24pa and did a puuldown to 24 fps or shot 24pn and did a pulldown to 24fps on a capeable nle. im assuming your footage is in fact still 29.976 fps, and therfore still contains interlaced frames. there are some nice links in the "links" section that give alot of info on the cam and how it works. im sure yours is fine.

IAL is right of course, but the real question here is, if he worked with the 100 and didn't notice these problems, why is he noticing them now on the 100A?

...no idea, they both record the excact same way. the 100a has 24pn, and 24pa, and didnt change how they work from the 100.  new nle perhaps, new pc with different graphics card. nle was previously set to deinterlace... who knows? but if nothing else has changed, than really everything is the same. the "a" doesnt send out a signal any differnt than the 100, and the nle wouldnt know the difference between the two. ..it seems a little odd that someone who previously owned the 100 wouldnt know about this issue, although there's always the possibility he just didnt notice before.

User Error indeed! Sorry. I believe the issue is with the NLE. Thanks so much for the replies.

I just got the original tapes back from teh client and watched them from the deck and they do look fine. I have no problem with regular interlacing. What I was seeing was what happens when you actually set up a clip as upper field when it is indeed lower field (or vice versa).

The interlacing looks like seriously torn edges and doubled up lines instead of like interlacing. Now I have to figure out what Final Cut 4 is doing to the footage when it brings it in or when it plays from the timeline. Most likely a Capture Setting or one of it's new RT render problems and destined for the NLE section of this message board I assume.
