hey guys,

I been doing alot of great things with my dvx100a recently, just came back from Dukesfest 2005. Had a blast! I have a really bad farmer's tan now. Anyways, I was one of the cameras for the behind the scene coverage of the stunt team. This dvd that we're doing goes in depth with the stunt team itself. How they built it leading up to the stunt show in Dukesfest 2005. I was ask to cook up a promo video for the cootersplace.com website for the dvd. Check it out.

that's a good suggestion. I been logging tapes all day, and I hear nothing but yee-haww in my head now. That and "breaker 1 breaker 1... im crazy but i aint dumb..crazy cooter coming at ya" ...

yee-haw ... ahh

this is dvx right? You have amazing dof, did you rotoscope?, perhaps mini35 the more I watch it the more I think it's film.

Great DOF

Great DOF

how did you get the great DOF for those shots. It seriuosly looks like you rotoscoped for the first low angle shots, but, how low they are and the DOF u have makes em look like a macro setup on some matchbox cars... but the moving shots even have DOF, and even the shots of the people standing in line. How'd you do that? diy 35 adapter?

wait a minute.. (bastard...cough cough... to myself) did you use those toy cars that those kids are playing w/ at the end for those first 2 shots of the cars under the stadium on the concrete... if u did. u fooled me. damn u. if not, ur **** looks fantastic. badass editing too... i didnt have sound, but hte color correctin and rotoscoping look great for the short edit. great job.

Yep, this is the dvx in action. Everything at factory settings, no extra lenses. I would like to get the mini35 when i can afford one. Until then I'll just rotoscope, The first two shots, I rotoscope, those were real general lees. Most of the shots I was far away, so zoom is at max for that deeper DOF.

Um...guys....sorry to be such a newbie :( but what does it mean to rotorscope?

I'm a duke fan...can't wait for the movie to come out!

Great Job Hiro!

to rotoscope is to create an animated matte indicating the shape of an object or actor at each frame of a sequence. I made a mask around the car, and blurred it. Thus, faking deep DOF. here's some pictures of some examples i did real quick. This was done in vegas.

more blur

im a litte bit off, but its alright, if its a moving clip, you really can't tell that much.
hope this helps

hiro,

I could only get about half of the big version to DL here at work (no idea why, I'm on a T1) but the medium loaded up normally. Good stuff, nice pace (the music choice helps), and you seemed to focus on the real meat of the event: the car, the people, and the fun. Then it switches into a more camera-tech mode which I thought was great. Looks like you took a lot of planning with this and it shows. How many cameras (all DVX?) and how many shooters? You used the DVX mounted inside and onto the cars too and for the shot from behind with the car flipping?

Joe,

Post something in the technical forum or start a thread in whatever NLE (editing program) you use and see what you can find there...there may already be something if you do a search.

hey!

We had two dvx's, sony PD150, varicam, sony dcr-trv70, sony trv900, and another one-chip. The coverage from the behind the scenes in the garage to the dukesfest was all dvx100a. For the POV, those were one-chip cameras with steel housing. We hired a guy from NY to do the POV stuff. His clamshell deck didn't survive during one of the jumps. that Sucked big time! The shot from behind was a dvx100a. Total crew is 4, we had two camera assistants waiting for us at the fest, and the pov guy came from NY. The producer gave me an outline of what he wanted, of course the General lee had to be #1 in the trailer, then a montage of the dukesfest, montage of the behind of the scenes with the guys, then the stunt show. here is a direct link to the file if you want to try again

the trailer is also up on cootersplace.com now also!

Hiro,

Great explanation! You mean that in Vegas, and other tools I can actually select using a lasso type of option and color correct, blur, etc for the rest of the sequence? I know that I could do a general color correction and DOF, but I wasn't aware that you can actually select particular parts.

That’s awesome!

Thanks again!

Pete
