Dvx100a capturing problem

I have recently purchased a dvx100a and I have been having problems with connecting it to my computer. I bought a pci firewire card yesterday which seems to be working ok but the camera is not recognized on the computer, in sony vegas, or in movie maker. I made sure the camera was on, in vcr mode, and plugged in. I have tried this setup on 3 different computers and have gotten the same results on all of them. Any suggestions?

I do have another mini dv camera but its my brother's old camera and it never worked on the computer either, figures haha. Ill try to find another one and give it a try, thanks for the suggestion.
 
When you do, be careful how you connect the cam to the PC. Always connect the PC end of the firewire cable first. Connecting the cam end first is how firewire ports get blown.
