DVX100A Battery Hungry

New here (did a search for this topic already but found no solution)

I've had my DVX100A for a good week or two now and I was wondering why this thing eats through batteries so fast. Are my settings wrong, is the camera deficient?

My battery wont last even 30 minutes and I have 2 different ones, and both are doing the exact same thing...

If anyone can offer me some type of explanation or a fix for this problem you would be a life saver.

Both are Panasonic

CGR-D16
7.2V
1600mAh
6 Series Lithium Ion batteries

and my charger is the official one that came with the camera

well theres the problem. 1600mah is pretty lame...and will die quickly. try the dvxuser batteries (5600mah) or speccom's 6000 mah

they have longer life ones also. do a search. i will give u links to those 2 above.

Sweet, I believe that will solve my problem.

I haven't got to shoot in a while due to the limited time, I really appreciate the links and advice.

MANY users here use the dvx user batteries...some even have about 5 of them. 2 can get u through the day though. they shud last about 4 hrs each...5hrs depending on how u shoot. (open LDC...alot of playback ect.) they used to come with dvxshirts...if u ordered 2 or more...i duno if they still do.

If ur camera sucks these dry fast then the problem lies with the camera and needs to be sent in for repair.

edit:....ahmm...i cant remember what i was gonna say...oh, these batteries charge with ur normal panny charger that coems with the DVX

Just in case the camera has a deficiency where should I send it into for repairs?

edit: or is there a way I could test the camera now to see if something is wrong with it?

Robbs Repair does great work and pretty cool people. Google them to get there contacts.

I duno how u can test the camera but it sounds as if its working fine with the type of batteries u are using.

Buy one of the dvxuser batteries...only $60. See that it works...ten u can buy another if u want.

Okay I did a test with the (CGR-D16 1600mAh) battery and it ran 21:30 with the LCD closed.

Im pretty sure it will be alot better with the DVXuser battery, but is that normal for a 1600mAh battery? it seems a little too short to me.

Dante, the suggestions above are all good. There is practically no chance your camera uses more power than it is supposed to. 1600mah battery is really grossly undersized for this camera, you need to get a 5600mah battery. If you wanted to calculate expected run time on a battery, please read our FAQ, there is a formula there, just plug in your battery capacity and your camera wattage.
