The DVX100A shuts off on its own after some time of inactivity. I can't find any setting to stop this from happening. Does anyone know if it is possible to turn this feature off?
That's interesting...I just checked both manuals (for A and B, not the original).
Try the "Tape Protect" mode and see if that does anything.

In the DVX100B manual, "Power Save" is on page 78 but they reference tape protection.
Now it's entirely possible they didn't have a power save mode in the A (after all they did keep improving on the camera with 3 different models), but I think that would be unusual.

P.S. "Tape Protect" is on page 49 in the DVX100A manual I'm viewing. If the default is off in your menu, setting it to standby should do it (if indeed this setting is linked to the power going off).
It's been close to two decades but I'm pretty sure the was no continuous standby setting for the camera. I recall having to occasionally reset the power as it would shut down to save battery power and more importantly to disengage the tape mechanism, which produced wear & tear in standby. One had to roll tape in order to keep it from shutting down after a time.
That said, I tested all three of my DVX100A's today. I don't know why, but none of them shut down, even after long periods of inactivity. In the past, my camera would shut down. Now I'm left scratching my head. I tried the "tape protect" settings for Power Off, and Standby, and it didn't seem to make a difference. I'm thinking maybe it happens when the battery gets low that it turns off automatically.
Barry -- you nailed it. I put in a tape and the camera once again shuts off automatically after 5 minutes. Glad to know I was not imaging this.
NorBro--good call. The Tape Protect setting did the trick. I changed the default setting of "POWEROFF" to "STBY" and the camera no longer shuts off automatically.
This was one of my biggest frustrations with the camera, so I really appreciate you helping me work through this! : )
The manual clearly says "STBY" aka "Standby", and the DVX100B has a "Power Save" mode, so I would have been honestly annoyed at the author of the manual if it didn't work, ha.
