DVX100A authorized services

My camera was accidentally broken, (the focus ring, lens hood, filter holder, and screen/lens panel protector, all of it fell off) because the little plastic ring (which holds all these pieces) broke by the 4 little screws! I mean how sturdy is this camera to have all of these pieces attach to 4 tiny screws? Anyways, I called Panasonic to see if I could send it directly to them, yet they told me that they only give direct service to high end cameras, so they referred me to an "authorized dealer" These guys told me that to diagnose the camera is about $75, that it may take a month before any repair could be done, and that it may take about 3 hours of work at $110. per hour of labor! that without counting how much are the parts, which they gave me an estimate of $1,500. so my questions are: is this a fair estimate?, does someone knows about another panasonic authorized service in the west coast who may be just as professional but probably cheaper? I don't have insurance, (dummy, dummy me, for not taking the insurance for only $259.!) and I would really love to have my camera as good as new, yet I think this is like an armed robbery! :'( :'( :'( any advice?

Hey "S"entaurus,

Check the topic under "Argh!!! Dropped camera" on the third plage of this forum (Technical). A lot of people replied to the same question and gave suggestions regarding price. $600.00 seemed to be the price (not including labor). $1500.00 *is* highway robbery.

Re: DVX100A authorized services

thanks for giving me fvvs. i'll check it out. today panasonic replied to my complaint about the pricey cost of repairing cameras at the service center they gave me. so, they recommended me another service center option. I'll call them too.

Hi, Dennis got your e-mail and he is responding to you directly. I just thought I'd add this post so others can find out about us. My name is John and three of us got together upon Panasonic's decision to close the Midwest factory servicenter to purchase the shop. We are a fully authorized Independant Factory Key Servicenter to do DVX and DVCPRO video equipment. I personally was the first person in the US to repair a DVX 100 and to date have repaired over 1000 of these units, so I guess you could say I have a grasp on repairing these little guys. We strive to provide a quick turn around at a reasonable cost. If anyone needs our services our website is www.fvvs.com :)

Re: DVX100A authorized services

thanks for dropping by john. :) glad to know there is a reliable place to send my dvx if it were ever to go down considering the horror stories i hear at other service centers not fixing the problem or long periods of turnaround time.
