DVX100A and WinXP Pro SP1??

Hello all
Using XpressPro 4.0. on a 2GHz 1GB P4 PC.
Having the devil of a time getting XP to see my DVX100 or my 100A (I have both) through the firewire cable into the (avid recognized) firewire card.
Worked with my older Digital8 camera fine. Turned the DV output on in the 100 (guess the 100A doesn't have that setting).
Can't find any Panasonic drivers for XP, so I assume that the DVXs are DV compliant and plug-and-play.
Read somewhere there's an oder for powering up that helps XP see the camera, but lost the thread.
Can't imagine that I'm the only one on the planet who's had this problem.
(switched cameras, cables, but not the firewire card, yet).
Anybody?

I recently had the same problem . Pinnacle wanted me to go into BIOS and dissable some USb ports ..I didn't . What I did was the usual run an error check , defrag and clean out old files etc ( I use crap cleaner, it's free) . Connect the fire wire to your camera (MUST BE TURNED OFF!!!! ) once connected turn on the camera and your program should detect it right away . Not sure about SP1 but SP 2 did have some issues with camera detection .
Have you tried you camera on another computer to see if it still happens ?
Is yor card OK .Does you computer reconize it .
When I was trouble shooting I removed my card and placed it into another slot and that worked which told me it wasn't the card .
I hope this is of some help , it worked for me and still is .
Maybe another member may have some additional advice ...Good Luck ..Ian

Say it aiin't so...

Say it aiin't so...

So it is true?
Win XP by itself does not, according to Panasonic's compatibilty charts, see either the DVX100 or the 100A cameras as playback machines.
Only XPress DV 3.5 sees the 100A, apparently.
I thought these cameras were meant to be 100% 1394 and DV compliant...
Are there any Panasonic drivers out there for XP?
Do I need SP2?

Well, something ain't so...
In a fit of exhasperation I loaded up OSX Tiger onto a machine at work and then XPress 4.8.1. Lo and behold, the DVX100 AND 100A came up, no problems at all, even when reading as "standard 1394 DV deck"'s, so life is as it should be, both cameras and all cables are functioning fine.
So apparently Panasonic's chart of 1394 camera-to-computer-compatibilities is not the definitive word after all.
And now... back to WinXP....
Can anybody tell me what should turn up on the Device Manager screen when a DV deck comes online via 1394/firewire?
All I know is that even the Windows Movie Maker won't see the DVXs at all.
Cheers
Chris

Ian, well I tried all the cables, etc., and everything's fine (see last post). Thanks for the CCleaner tip, but my computer doesn't have much on it anyway, after reformatting and reinstalling clean XP systems a couple of times now. The Device Manager sees my Avid-compliant SIIG 1394 card okay, so I guess the next step is to plug another firewire camcorder or something in it to see that the plugs themselves are working okay.
Thanks for your input and keep those comments coming!

Chris please do NOT do this. If you are having trouble getting your computer to recognize your camera and if it is the fault of the firewire port, you will just wind up frying everything in it's path. Your better bet is to take that camera to another "safe" computer and trying to get it recognized.

Hi Rick
please read my second-to-last post. I did just that and both cameras and cables worked fine when going firewire/Mac G4/OS10.4/XPress 4.8.1, after being tried on the SIIG board before.
I'm going to buy another 1394 card in a a minute, since this is a paying gig and I'm delayed enough already. (I can return it if I can find out it's not the problem). SO, more anon!
Cheers

Oh that's very good news. Good luck on fixing your card.

SP 2 ..It is my understanding once installed you cannot uninstall it . there was a few issues with SP 2 including the detection or lack of of the DVX . I haven't heard any issues lately so maybe the bugs are worked out .
I just plugged my DVX in and held my breath and yes it still is detecting OK .

I just thought of something Pinnacle had stated in their help e mail .
Try unplugging or turning off your printer / scanner etc . This I am told will cause a conflict with the card ( firewire port ) ( didn't help me though).
Hope you have found a solution to your problem ...........Ian
