DVX100A 25p (PAL) with FCE2

I'm hoping someone can advise me here. I'm new to this and just about to buy my first camcorder. I'm considering the PD170 and DVX100A - the latter because from what I've seen from clips here the 'film look' mode looks very nice.

I am in the UK so will go for the PAL model, which has 25p instead of the 24p mode (which I assume is so close as to make no difference to the look). FCE 2 doesn't support 24p mode (need FCP) but what about 25p? Is this supported at all by either versions? It isn't mentioned on the Apple site at all, so any advice would be appreciated.

You can edit 25p on any DV based NL edit suite beacause the pull down puts a progressive frame down as 2 interlaced fields on the DV tape so you can use it like regular interlaced footage. {However myself and many other pros have found that progressive footage does not view correctly on a PAL monitor and we.re still awaiting a response from panasonic}

Thanks for your reply Brendan. Please excuse my ignorance (new to this) but I'd like to understand what it is (in simple terms) that FCP can do with 24p that FCE can't - and if/how that relates to 25p (which isn't mentioned at all by Apple).

Also - when you say about the PAL monitor would that include a PAL TV screen as well? And is it unusable or just not quite right?
